The Farewell is a fantastic movie! I think Shuzhen Zhao’s performance was from the bottom of her heart! I absolutely loved her and her movie.

I don’t think Maggie Smith has any shot at getting nominated. Maybe at the BAFTAs. The film was also released too early and it was a thing just in UK. Definitely not an Oscar player.

Whilst I agree with you on the rest, the film has been huge in America as well. It’s not just a “thing” in the UK.

She’s fine I guess but she’s not getting nominated for anything.

lmfao it was the #1 film in America beating both Ad Astra and Rambo at the box office. It still makes lots of money here. It has a worldwide total of $140M as of today, 80M are domestic.

Well, both Ad Astra and Rambo are box office flops. At least Ad Astra has better reviews than Downton Abbey and is probably more of a contender (not that much to be honest) at the Oscars than Downton Abbey, which will certainly be forgotten in less than a month, except maybe for the BAFTAs.

All I have are negative thoughts

Let’s be real. I didn’t even know she appeared on the movie.

So, can we all agree that (so far) the two top contenders are Laura Dern and Jennifer Lopez?

No, I think top two are Dern (clear frontrunner) followed by Margot for Bombshell.

Yes. I’d place Lopez above Dern. Sorry not sorry. Yes I’ve seen both. No I wouldn’t class myself as a JLo stan.

Nope. It’s Dern, then the others

I’d place Dern third…in Marriage Story. Julie Hagerty and Merritt Wever were better in my opinion.

Hagerty was damn annoying in her role while Wever is literally in one and a half scenes.
