Have you seen Marriage Story? They’ve got three Oscar worthy performances that are pure Oscar bait.

One is playing an actor, the other a director. Long baity monologues, lots of screaming, witty lines that recieved applause from the audience, and tons of ugly crying. It’s Academy porn.

I Said the performances are great. THAT doesn’t mean they’ll win Oscars for it. Do you know how the Oscars work? The performance is just one of many things.

    SAG Ensemble winner. Right?

Maybe. I could see SAG awarding the individual performances separately for Marriage Story and giving maybe JoJo Rabbit the SAG ensemble win.

That’s possible as well, although I’m not as confidant about JoJo.
It should be exciting because both would be deserving. MS remains my favorite (eligible) ensemble.

I don’t think Johannson wins for this. She’s great. She’ll get her first nom but there’s nothing there to beat the likes of Zellweger and lovers of the films have Dern and Driver to support.

If Renee gets taken down it will have to be someone with either an undeniable performance or a better narrative. So far we haven’t seen either of those things emerge.

The nomination is her win. Hopefully it will lead to many more as she’s a fantastic actress.

Scarlette is not winning, but with the year she’s had I don’t imagine them Blunting her.
In terms of media and coverage she’ll be the Gaga of the year. Huge star hitting every red carpet possible. Secretly, I want her to say whatever she wants and her publicists having panic attacks all season long.

I think Renée Zellweger, Scarlett Johansson and Charlize Theron will be definitely nominated. Renée will probably win though. I think Adam Driver lowers Scarlett’s chances at winning.

Now I’m kind of struggling with Scarlett winning at all. I think she still can but I’m not that confident in it at all. I don’t think major critics will go to bat for her like they would for Awkafina, Lupita or even Alfre Woodard (NY/LA critics on Twitter were professing their love for those three). Plus, she’s losing a certain likability about her with the shit she says. Not Cynthia Erivo level but still I see some critics not voting for her just because they don’t like her. Plus, if you already have Driver and Dern+ the film itself to support, why feel bad about leaving Johansson in the dust (and she supposedly becomes unlikable in the movie later on)?

I don’t think she gets snubbed for an Oscar nom but if she loses that Globe, that all goes downhill for her.

Exactly where I’m at. I don’t believe she 100% doesn’t stand a chance but unless Judy’s buzz completely dies in a few months I don’t see her winning. Then again, even if Judy’s buzz dies down it can be picked back up if Renée wins the Globes.

    Poor Charlize.
Now all of them are jinx

    Renee has the HFA curse
    Johansson has the Gotham curse
    Theron hasn’t the Cinemateque curse.

critics picks are now predictable? I remember y’all saying Aparicio would be the critics darling and that Gaga wouldn’t win anything in the critics circle.

Scarlett being snubbed at Gotham Awards when a couple of voters are also part of the LA/NY critic awards committee indicates she might not do well with critics imo. Awkwafina, Alfie and Lupita are probably going to be more of the critical darlings.
