If all three of Bombshell, 1917, and Little Women stay mostly unseen until their late December release dates, one if not two of them won’t make an awards splash. I just don’t see how there’s enough time for all three to get attention and build momentum especially because the awards year is shortened and Star Wars will dominate cultural conversation through the end of December.

Anyone agree with me after seeing Joker, Hildur could win Best Original Score. Her score was the my personal standout.

The Lighthouse in Original Screenplay – though I won’t see it until a week from now so I’ll be more informed by then. I read that Dafoe has monologues and the language used is particularly idiomatic, so this may draw attention to the writing for viewers.

Also it feels odd to call Roger Deakins an outlier but I think he could get nominated for The Goldfinch as well as 1917. It doesn’t matter that the film got negative reviews and flopped, it’s Roger friggin Deakins, and there was memorable imagery even judging from the trailer. The cinematographers branch will have no problem separating Deakins’s work from the apparent mess it’s contained in; they’ve nominated films with similarly bad reception in this category before. Last time I checked this wasn’t in the predictions centre, but it should be.

I have only Pacino as the only actor getting in. Both actor categories are stacked this year, but his raves makes me think he’s undeniable for a nomination.

I suppose it’s A Hidden Life for Cinematography, and maybe Us for Actress (though I’m still not super confident in that one).

    For Your Consideration.

Best Director: Bong-Joon Ho, Taika Waititi, Todd Phillips
Best Actor: Joaquin Phoenix, Robert Pattinson, Roman Griffin Davis, Christian Bale
    Best Actress: Lupita Nyong'o
Best Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe, Song Kang-Ho, Sam Rockwell
Best Supporting Actress: Thomasin McKensie, Cho Yeo-Jeong
Best Adapted Screenplay: Jojo Rabbit, Joker
Best Original Screenplay: Parasite, Ford v Ferrari
