I used to think that the directing line up was solidly Baumbach, Gerwig, Joon Ho, Mendes, and Scorsese with Tarantino in 6th. The more that the Safdie Brothers show up in places, the more I think this year is going to be like 2012. In DGA and other precursors you had the running list of Affleck (Argo), Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty), Lee (Life of Pi), Hooper (Les Mis), and Spielberg (Lincoln). Then the Oscars went very left field with only Lee and Spielberg repeating and Haneke (Amour), Russell (SLP), and Zeitlin (Beasts of the Southern Wild). I could see Celine Sciamma (Portrait of a Lady on Fire), Todd Phillips (Joker), Safdie Brothers (Uncut Gems), Lulu Wang (Farewell), or Almodovar (Pain and Glory) getting in as those “whoa! they get nominated” inclusions. Scorsese and Joon Ho are the only two that are locks with Mendes likely behind. The last two spots I think are still very much wide open. Globes will help, but somebody is going to be this year’s ‎Paweł Pawlikowski.

Joker is locked for Best Picture now. There are 7 locks: Parasite, The Irishman, Marriage Story, OUATIH, 1917, Jojo Rabbit, and Joker. The Two Popes and The Farewell are steady 8th and 9th place. Ford v Ferrari, Little Women, and Bombshell are done.

    Academy-Award winners:

Parasite: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay

Joker: Best Actor - Joaquin Phoenix

    Jojo Rabbit: Best Adapted Screenplay

And you were right about FvF and Bale Hammand. It looked like such a strong contender for a while though. I’m sad for it.

With the backlash against the globes for having no female director,i am confident the academy will nominate at least one, it will be Greta but i hope its Lulu Wang

Little Women missing here is surprising considering how high it is on predict list. Another red flag.

I thought 2 Popes had a chance here since they recreated sistine chapel but nothing is stopping the Joker train.

Bombshell’s reviews are just as mediocre as you would expect from a failed Oscar contender. If SJW critics are lukewarm than the film is probably awful, just as I expected. Good on the Globes for killing it.

    Academy-Award winners:

Parasite: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay

Joker: Best Actor - Joaquin Phoenix

    Jojo Rabbit: Best Adapted Screenplay

For Best Picture, the thing to remember is that passion gets you the nomination but to win, you have to be a picture that is liked by lots of the voters.
