This category was so empty last year and now it’s hard to narrow down to 5. Living for it.

    Dafoe, The Lighthouse
    Foxx, Just Mercy
    Pitt, OUATIH
    Hanks, ABDITN
    Bale, Ford v Ferrari

    Bubbling under:
    – the Irishman men, looks right now like Netflix is putting their energy towards Marriage Story so I’m waiting for reviews
    – Brown, we’ll see if Waves is more Moonlight or Beale St
    – The Two Popes, how are they campaigning?

There’s no point for this thread. Or change the name. The category is gonna consist of five co-leads: Bale/Damon, Hopkins, Pacino, Pitt, Pesci/Foxx/Hanks/Rhys. Sorry true character actors, no one gives a crap about you.

Who would you like to see nominated Miss Lee? (Incidentally, Monroe should have won for playing you, but I digress.)

Even if it is ‘more Beale Street’ I don’t see how that affects Brown’s chances. Beale Street won an acting category and Brown is arguably almost as loved as King is currently.

    For Your Consideration:

Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)

You’re right! But his competition will be stronger than Regina’s was. I want him in but I have him just outside for now.

Sterling K. Brown definitely is the male Regina. Years of acting with very little recognition for their work (though Regina’s career is longer) until 2015 when they started winning lots of major awards at a very quick rate and became industry favorites. Sterling could definitely hit all precursors and get in at the Oscars

I don’t see him winning for now though

I think there is a point that this year could be dominated by ‘co-leads’. I hadn’t thought about it but it’s feasible the line-up is something like Bale, Pitt, Brown, Hanks and Dafoe, all of whom are at least co-leads or close to it by the sounds of it.

Right now though my predictions would be:

    • Pitt, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
    • Alda, Marriage Story
    • Hanks, A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood
    • Dafoe, The Lighthouse
    • Lithgow, Bombshell

If Bale and Brown are confirmed Supporting I’d be comfortable predicting them ahead of anyone other than Pitt and I think that would make for a very interesting race, albeit as a second Lead Actor category, that could literally go any way.

Just returned from Dolor y Gloria. I think Asier Gómez Etxeandia deserves to be in contention. His chemistry with Banderas is brilliant and provides the film with much needed comic relief. He also has an extended soliloquy which broke my heart. I don’t see him mentioned anywhere but I’d love him to sneak in somehow if the film performs well, on the back of Banderas if need be.

    FYC:

Antonio Banderas and Asier Etxeandia, Dolor y Gloria (Best Actor/Supporting Actor)
Emily Beecham, Little Joe (Best Actress)
Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren, The Good Liar (Best Actor/Actress)

Ugh I’m already seeing the male Regina King ruining Brad’s chances.
Brown is the type of winner the Supporting categories like to award lately.

I’m probably the only person in the world who thinks Waves is probably not going to be a hit awards-wise. It just looks messy from the trailer. Good, but messy.

Does anyone know how I can add Asier Gómez Etxeandia to my predictions? I couldn’t find him on the suggestions list…

You can’t add anyone that’s not offered. Hence you may add, for instance, Nia Long or Judy Greer in Supporting Actress, but not Octavia Spencer.

    What a mess.

So either way Sterling is winning

Kinda feeling like this race will be between Sterling K Brown and Brad Pitt.
