He was snubbed as Walt Disney soooo

That film wasn’t a huge awards contender though, and Emma Thompson was the one they were campaigning hard for, not Hanks. Hanks didn’t receive accolades from anyone for that performance. The only true snub he has had was Captain Phillips (and maybe Bridge of Spies).

    For Your Consideration:

Best Picture: Parasite, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Ford v Ferrari
Best Director: Bong-Joon Ho, Taika Waititi, Todd Phillips
Best Actor: Joaquin Phoenix, Robert Pattinson, Roman Griffin Davis, Christian Bale
    Best Actress: Lupita Nyong'o
Best Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe, Song Kang-Ho, Sam Rockwell, Al Pacino
Best Supporting Actress: Thomasin McKensie, Cho Yeo-Jeong
Best Adapted Screenplay: Jojo Rabbit, Joker
Best Original Screenplay: Parasite, Ford v Ferrari

Still saddens me how much this absolute gem of a film got done over all season long (referencing Saving Mr Banks).

Such a shame. I still struggle to think how Emma Thompson could’ve missed that year. She was sensational.

Thats revisionist history. Experts had it in the top 5 even after the fall festivals.

But the final results were not great. Regardless of how well it did, the point was that Hanks was never a contender for that film: he was campaigning for Captain Phillips. Thompson and Newman (and maybe a Picture nom) were that film’s only Oscar chances.

    Willem Dafoe, The Lighthouse
    John Lithgow, Bombshell
    Anthony Hopkins, The Two Popes
    Sterling K. Brown, Waves
Christian Bale, Ford vs. Ferrari (unless he goes Lead)
    Jamie Foxx, Just Mercy

    Next in line

Matt Damon, Ford v. Ferrari (unless he goes Lead)
    Al Pacino, The Irishman
    Joe Pesci, The Irishman

    Strong possibilities

    Alan Alda, Marriage Story

    Ray Liotta, Marriage Story

    Possibilities

    Lucas Hedges, Waves
    Taika Waititi, JoJo Rabbit
    Robert De Niro, Joker

    Longer shots

    Sam Rockwell, JoJo Rabbit
    Tracy Letts, Ford vs. Ferrari
    Malcolm McDowell, Bombshell
    Donald Sutherland, Ad Astra
    Willem Dafoe, Motherless Brooklyn

    Shouldn’t be written off

Jonathan Majors, The Last Black Man in San Francisco

How so? Emma got SAG and BAFTA? For sure she’s in the 6th spot.

Brad Pitt gonna sweep easy. It’s looking more and more like a Once Upon a Time vs Marriage Story race.

Honestly, after Captain Phillips, I lost all hope for Hanks ever getting another nomination again lol. That’s the most upset I’ve ever been for any acting snub and my favorite performance of his. I never predicted him for Bridge of Spies, Sully, or The Post, despite the buzz he had, simply because I thought “if he didn’t get in for Captain Phillips, he isn’t getting in for anything.”

Lupita Nyong'o will win the Best Actress Oscar for "Us."

His final scene in Captain Philips is probably one of the greatest moments of Hanks’ prestigious career. I would’ve definitely put him in over Bale (who I actually thought gave the best performance in American Hustle). That year had a pretty strong lineup. In a different year, I could’ve seen Ejiofor (would’ve been my personal winner), DiCaprio, or Dern walking away with the Oscar.

That scene was exactly what I was thinking about while writing my post!

Darling, Shirtless Pitt isn’t winning an Oscar for being shirtless and high lmao. And Once and Always Trash in Hollywod isn’t winning. Marriage Story could be an option for the win though.
