This category is the do or die moment for Little Women, Ford v Ferrari, The Two Popes, and The Farewell. Without nominations here those films are toast.

Edit: Although half of those films are dead anyway after BAFTA.

Most of the time, 3 films miss here and 1 film that gets snubbed gets in. And that 1 is nearly always the tiny indie or foreign film. Room is good example of this.

So I am pretty confident that Knives Out will be in here and be one of the 3 that misses.

There’s 7 locks for this award right now, those films being OUATIH, 1917, Parasite, Joker, Marriage Story, The Irishman, and Jojo Rabbit. The next most likely films are Knives Out, which had been doing extremely well at the precursors so far, and Uncut Gems, which has hit a massive amount of late season buzz thanks to its over performance at the box office. Lastly, the PGA’s always go for something unexpected, so I’m predicting Rocketman: a film that seems to be on the verge of several Oscar nominations including Best Actor despite its early release date.
