I wouldn’t sleep on Renate Reinsve. She won Cannes, topped TIFF critics list and TWPITW Academy screening was moderated by one of the most influential NYFCC members. Apparently, the movie was extremely well liked among the critics members.

Lol I forgot about her! Her winning wouldn’t surprise me too much either.

    FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.

Considering last year’s result it probably won’t happen but I really hope Claire Mathon wins the cinematography Oscar. Her work on Spencer was exquisite.

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.

    What award ceremony is this?

New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) Awards.

One of the most prestigious critics award, the other two being LAFCA and NSFC. NYFCC is also the oldest critics group in US, just a decade younger than Oscar.

I scoped every single critic on the list and my bold prediction is that this particular set is very high on Ruth Negga and Dunst, but moreso their films so The Power of the Dog & Passing and a bunch of films that aren’t strictly in contention may get a big prize and not acting prizes: Pig, The Green Knight, The Souvenir Part 2. Whichever gets film or director won’t get an acting award. Hopedicting a little but Ruth Negga for Supporting OR Tessa Thompson for Lead.

Also: Lady Gaga can win……. She is shock value, for one, and despite the bad reviews for HoG, they love Gaga.

    Some BOLD predix:

    Film: The Green Knight
    Alt: Passing
    Alt: The Souvenir Part 2

Director: Jane Campion, The Power of the Dog
    Alt: PTA, Licorice Pizza
Alt: David Lowery, The Green Knight

    Actor: Nicolas Cage
    Alt: Simon Rex
    Alt: Benedict Cumberbatch

    Actress: Alana Haim
    Alt: Tessa Thompson
    Alt: Kristen Stewart

    Supporting Actor: Woody Norman
    Alt: Troy Kotsur
    Alt: Kodi Smit-McPhee

    Supporting Actress: Ruth Negga
    Alt: Kirsten Dunst
    Alt: Kathryn Hunter
Alt: Ann Dowd or Martha Plimpton, if either can get above each other & the others 😬

    Screenplay: C’mon Cmon
    Alt: The Souvenir Part 2
    Alt: The Lost Daughter

    Cinematography: The Tragedy of Macbeth
    Alt: The Green Knight
Alt: The Power of the Dog

Best Foreign Language Film: The Worst Person in the World
    Alt: Drive My Car
    Alt: Bergman Island

    Best First Film: Passing
    Alt: Shiva Baby
    Alt: The Lost Daughter

    FYC:
Picture: Passing, The Power of the Dog, The Lost Daughter, Drive My Car
    Director: Jane Campion, Rebecca Hall
    Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch, Hidetoshi Nishijima
Actress: Tessa Thompson, Olivia Colman, Kristen Stewart
Supporting Actress: Kirsten Dunst, Ruth Negga, Dakota Johnson, Jessie Buckley, Martha Plimpton
Supporting Actor: Troy Kotsur, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Jesse Plemons

Just a reminder that the NYFCC awards are sometimes of limited value when it comes to predicting Oscar nominations, let alone winners. Last year, the group chose:
    Best Picture: First Cow
    Best Director: Chloé Zhao
    Best Actor: Delroy Lindo
    Best Actress: Sidney Flanigan
    Best Supporting Actor: Chadwick Boseman
    Best Supporting Actress: Maria Bakalova
Best Cinematographer: Shabier Kirchner for Small Axe
Best Screenplay: Eliza Hittman for Rarely Sometimes Never Always

Of this group, Zhao was the only winner, and Zhao and Bakalova were the only nominees in these specific categories.
