“Wuhan Flu” could be the “Blame Canada” of the season. 💀
ReplyCopy URLNovember 13, 2020 at 8:49 pm #1203835912Already mentioned a couple times in the thread but holy hell Riz Ahmed’s “Once Kings” is an absolute gem of song. Not just a good movie song but a great song period.
Probably (lol, undoubtedly) a too of cool / inspired pick for AMPAS to make but will be canvassing for it nonetheless.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 15, 2020 at 10:02 am #1203838786Does anyone know if What a Life from Another Round is a song originally written for the movie? If it is then I can imagine it being nominated. The movie will be quite visible because it might be the Danish submission for International Feature, and the scene the song appears in is so insanely memorable that it’s basically impossible to get it out of your head afterwards.

Lead Actor: Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round)
Supporting Actress: Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm)

“REAL” by E$tado Unido feat. Stéphanie Janaina from Ema.

After seeing the film, it seems like Netflix would be pushing for “This Day” to get the nom, since it’s performed in the film and then a cover version by Usher is played first during the credits.
My new predicts (for now):
The Life Ahead – “lo si”
One Night in Miami – “Speak Now”
Jingle Jangle – “This Day”
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm – “Wuhan Flu”+OPEN SPOT
Tempted to predict Onward, but that kinda came and went awhile ago.
With the whole Academy voting on nominees now, someone like Taylor Swift could get in (IF the music panel doesn’t eliminate as a finalist… and that’s a big if).
Lots more movies with music to come.

ReplyCopy URLI just love movies. And awards.
November 16, 2020 at 11:00 am #1203841009This is Diane Warren’s time to shine. There’s no undeniable hit and I think she can come through with one of her songs. Io si seems pretty strong.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 16, 2020 at 11:00 am #1203841011I want nothing more from this award season than Wuhan Flu getting Best Song nomination.

ReplyCopy URLNovember 16, 2020 at 11:21 am #1203841063I think “Carried Me with You” is for sure getting in. Sure, Onward kind of fizzled because of its unfortunate release time, but it’s obviously top two for animated film, and Disney doesn’t have really another contender to push in this category. Mulan is not happening and after its various controversies and probable crash-and-burn failure on Disney+ so I doubt the Mouse even gives it the time of day. And the music industry seems to like Brandi Carlile.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 16, 2020 at 11:33 am #1203841099It’s a pleasant surprise to see Travis Scott, Doja Cat, HER, Taylor Swift, HAIM, Brandi Carlile, Justin Timberlake and so on, in this list. I hope these singer-songwritters with sized careers as musicians feel welcome at the academy and that they continue to deliver each year.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 16, 2020 at 11:35 am #1203841103I’d probably put Carried me With You as a near lock for now, it’s Pixar and they got two nominations recently and one win, and Soul doesn’t have original songs, so i think it’s safe, besides, it’s the only Disney bet as said above. They won’t go for Mulan and neither for this other Diane song.
