Has there been any confirmation that Amy is even lead in Hillbilly??? I mean in the book she is clearly supporting, so for her to be lead they would have to pretty much ditch most of the source material and give her way more to work with.

And apparently Aaron Sorkin saw ‘Mank’ and was more than blown away by it. Fincher is coming!!!!

I was just thinking, with the notices for Nomadland and Trial of the Chicago Seven, Mank should start getting some quotes out there soon so the other front runners don’t have a leg up on it.

Its funny, I switched to Nonadland yesterday, but as of today, I’m back to Chicago Seven, as I just feel this is gonna hit given the subject feels so timely.

I still got Chicago 7 at my 3 spot, while Mank is 1 and Nomadland is 2.

Well obviously Mank is going to be an acclaimed movie by every indicator, but the last few years have clearly broken from the trend of awarding movies that are perfect on paper. Perceived quality is only one of many variables.

I think we’re assuming that Netflix won’t want to campaign Amy and Glenn in the same category because both are so overdue – so one of them will go Lead.

Netflix seem to be being very cautious about their campaigning actually. They could have had Malcolm and Marie out in time especially considering how hot JD Washington and Zendaya are right now but they deliberately held it in order to not get too many contenders. With the announcement that Loren will be making eligibility and press already starting for Pieces of a Woman and buzz grow and the fact they were about to start press for Ma Rainey makes me think that either Amy goes supporting or Hillbilly Elegy is skipping eligibility. I don’t see them getting 4 Actress nominees. 3 yes 4 no.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

If Hillbilly Elegy is moved to next year then Ma Rainey is probably getting Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay nominations.

With my increasing doubt that The French Dispatch is this Oscars year, what should I put in my 5th director slot? My others are

    Chloe Zhao

    David Fincher

    Denis Villeneuve

    Ron Howard

    I think Wes will make the deadline… I think… maybe…….. hopefully……

If the director race wasn’t so weird this year I would probably write her off, but Regina King legit has a chance of being nominated. Also, I don’t think Howard or Villeneuve are anywhere near locks. Howard might be seen as a little stale, and Dune might… not be great.
