The Life Ahead is coming November 13

I don’t know if Netflix will be able to handle 3 Best Actress campaigns, but if La vita davanti a sé is selected as Italy’s Oscar submission for Best International Film, I can see her raise above a lot of other contenders. Apart from Una giornata particolare, I’ve never been a big Loren fan, but her upcoming movie has a lot on paper to perform well with awards

Winning Picture and Director without Screenplay hasn’t happened since Million Dollar Baby. And Mank hasn’t even come out yet.

Actually, The Artist did it in 2012 and The Shape of Water did it in 2018. But it’s still not very common. Picture + Screenplay is the most common, then Picture + Director + Screenplay, then in last place Picture + Director.

Just saying Zendaya just won an Emmy for a Sam Levinson produced Drama against the biggest stars in the world and that Vanessa Kirby is competing for an Oscar for a Sam Levinson produced Drama…

That is true but to be fair, Euphoria was acclaimed. That’s not the case for Pieces of a Woman

Eh, not really. Euphoria has almost the same MC score as Pieces of a Woman (68/69) and similiar percentage on RT (81/82), even their averages are similiar (7.31/7.35).

I’m not sure where to post this exactly but this is the first comment from a critic I’ve seen online after watching Trial of the Chicago 7:

Always knew it would have a strong ensemble but it looks promising as a film in general!

so people seem to agree that Chicago 7 is a glorified TV movie. probably won’t be a threat to Nomadland/Mank in BP.

With strong performances. I think Rylance is probably the one who ends up getting the nom though. Sag ensemble nom for sure maybe even a win the way people are saying how good the performances are.

Disagree, the buzz I’m seeing is pretty strong. There doesn’t seem to be a consensus standout at the moment, but I am seeing quite a few Frank Langella mentions.

I’ve seen literally every member of the cast get highlighted on Twitter with people having their own personal standouts and most critics agree that the entire cast would all go supporting. The performances are definitely amazing, though I have no idea who stands out most/will get nominated.

Yea if they all go supporting that could hurt their chance bc they all may end up splitting votes since people seem to be so decisive on who the standouts were. I actually seen Rylance get mentioned the most, thats why I said he may end up getting the nom.

I know there were a lot of people dismissing The Trial of the Chicago 7 from the trailer (including me), but from the reviews this seems to be exactly the kind of movie the Oscars love.

I won’t say it’s the frontrunner, but in a year like this, Chicago 7 is exactly the kind of film I could potentially see Oscar voters going for.

Netflix will also need to look for the best campaign strategy because a lot of the cast members are getting praise and it’s impossible for all of them to get in.

First in-depth article about the film and its awards chances. The issue seems to be that there are so many great performances, they’ll have to choose which to campaign for risk of cancelling each other out. The screenplay, score, and editing have also been highlighted and it’s definitely both a “crowd pleaser” and extremely relevant to the present moment. I’d say its nomination chances are looking pretty good.

Editing seems to be coming up a lot for this film’s reaction. When below the line categories come, I’m definitely putting this in my 5.

I said the other day I thought people were seriously overreacting about that teaser (which was perfectly fine). Looks like this can definitely be a contender.

I’m now convinced that at least one actor is going lead. I’m currently seeing very positive things about Baron Cohen, Strong, Abdul-Mateen II, Langella, Rylance, and Keaton, and they’re likely going to want to lessen the vote split at least a bit.

Another article above from THR about Trial of the Chicago 7’s awards chances.

It’s also being mentioned a lot by pundits as “likely to connect with a wide variety of Academy members” and “an audience movie that AMPAS will adore”.
