Netflix (Order of priority) 1. Mank 2. The Trial of Chicago 7 3. Hillbilly Elegy 4. Da 5 Bloods 5. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom 6. I’m Thinking of Ending Things 7. White Tiger (I think the array of Netflix BP contenders is so full that Kaufman’s film will be lost in the shuffle, especially if released in September.)

Switch Ma Rainey’s and Da 5 Bloods. Netflix already revealed their Top 3 before they got TTOTC7.

I’m loving this GD energy of predicting Mank in every category but the Academy has always found a way to fuck over Fincher movies in nominations and wins, even more so than with Nolan, and I don’t want to have false hope.

The curious case of Benjamin Button got 13 nominations, so there’s a precedent. The social network got 8 despite getting snubbed in supporting actor and even The girl with the dragon tattoo got 5 which is not good considering it’s not Oscar material. This year won’t be competitive and Mank seems like a technical film that the academy would embrace. I understand the skepticism though.

This is a considerably more conventional subject matter for Oscars compared to The Social Network or even Benjamin Button. I suspect this will have a The Departed moment where even if it’s not peak Fincher, there will be enough dues owed that it WILL get momentum. If this film gets fucked over, it’ll be Netflix’s fault not Fincher’s.

    For Your Consideration:

Do you guys think Coen Brothers will make a comeback for an oscar someday? I mean a great movie such the man who wasn’t there/fargo/no country that can compete per picture and director

I’m sure they’ll be back at the Oscars at some point. Even their weaker efforts are enjoyable. They just need the right story, and they’ll be back.

You better be right. This is the same group of idiots who thought Se7en + Fight Club + Gone Girl all deserved only 1 nomination each. We don’t even need to talk about the missing nominations from PGA + DGA + WGA nominee Girl with a Dragon Tattoo.

What’s curious is them thinking it’ll be exciting enough just because Fincher is directing.

They’re already over awarded as is. I think at best they’ll direct someone people to acting wins.

This one doesn’t make sense since Annette is going to Cannes 2021 and then in your list you’re missing Hopkins and Davis. The former is a lock for a nomination the latter is a lock for a win.
