I don’t think Netflix really expects The Prom to be an awards contender, so I think they’ll be fine releasing it near one of those projects.

We’ve been over this before: it’s not. Metacritic cherry picks the mainstream media journalist critics and ignores a lot of the great ones on YouTube like Chris Stuckman, Jeremy Jahns, and Dan Murrell, and also smaller outlet critics. Rotten Tomatoes has much wider range of reviews and thus is a more accurate barometer for what the majority of critics actually like.

I didn’t say that Metacritic is the best source for film criticism or necessarily a good barometer of what will or will not get Oscar nominated, but it is made up of the critics with the most industry power.  The conversation was about Nolan getting critical push and when the only critics that have any kind of power rarely rate his films over a 75, I don’t think he’ll get nominated because of his film being a “critical darling.”

At this point, my expectation is that they combine this year’s ceremony with next years.

A separate ceremony would be a pleasant surprise, but I just can’t see it happening.

Have a great day if you see this!

French Dispatch is canceled from the 2020 release.

Does that mean that they are planning to release it on Jan/Feb 2021, or just indefinitely canceled until late next year???

Yeah, I can definitely see big studios putting pressure to cancel this year’s ceremony…

I think that Disney not giving The French Dispatch a date actually means they are hopeful to see if things get better and they can release it in 2020, same with Mulan.

They still have the Personal History of David Copperfield, Deep Water, Soul, and West Side Story scheduled as 2020 releases.

My sentiments exactly. Businesses need to move forward at some point.

You’re only saying this because it’s inconvenient for you.  Reopening movie theaters, which are as nonessential as you can get, is beyond stupid.  It’s a group of people sitting closely in a tight room for a long period of time.  It’s a petri dish for this virus to spread.

They will have to have an Oscar ceremony (virtual or however else) for the 2020 movie year. Movies aired, and continue to air (on streaming). Just because big studio players might not be in contention, they can’t cancel the Oscars when movies came out this year. It would be colossal for all these outlets who cover the Oscar season as well.

If Delroy Lindo wins as they’re predicting then Da 5 Bloods is gonna do really well. We’ll have to wait and see though.

I don’t think voters are going to watch all these movies, tbh.

1)They are wrong about predicting Denzel Washington.
The Tragedy of Macbeth is supposedly a late 2021 release.
They haven’t even finished shooting yet.

    2) They are predicting Winslet to not get in the category, which i can see, but if they think there won’t be enough passion for her to be nominated, then certainly there won’t be passion neither for Ronan to get in Supporting.

Which of these movies do you think the voters won’t see? Just curious.
