One Night will probably end up taking People’s Choice at TIFF or be one of the runner-ups given that it fits more with past winners there than some of the other contenders would.

The One Night In Miami reviews look good. Looks like a DGA first feature potential winner

Don’t films that premiere in competition only get to compete for the Golden Lion?

Oh yeah, I forgot it was out of competition.

Personally, I think the Top 3 for People’s Choice will be Nomadland, The Father, and Ammonite, in that order, but One Night in Miami could sneak in.

    Fuck the Grammys

I’d say One Night in Miami’s strongest bet for an Oscar nomination is in Adapted Screenplay. I have in several categories right now but that’s mostly because we don’t know what is actually being released outside of Netflix.

Regina King getting Best First Feature at the Indie Spirit Awards also seems likely.

It be iconic and hilarious if Regina wins DGA before she gets an individual SAG nomination.

A film with Ansel Elgort in it won’t make in at Best Picture.

Mel Gibson, Roman Polanski, & Woody Allen re-entered the race after career defining controversies. Most people have already forgotten about Ansel’s allegations. WSS will fail to make BP if it doesn’t live up to expectations.

The Boys in the Band seems like a non-factor to me.

Outside of adapted screenplay, where it is a wasteland this year and the original playwright (who co-wrote the film’s screenplay) had passed away this March.

I mean no disrespect towards Boseman, he’s a phenomenally talented actor and I’m sure he will be great in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. But I think in this case the nomination will be his reward.

Could Chadwick receive 2 nominations in 1 year? Lead for Ma Rainey’s & Supporting for Da 5 Bloods? 🤷🏾‍♂️

I’m not convinced it’s that much of a wasteland – Nomadland, One Night in Miami, Ma Rainey, Hillbilly Elegy, News of the World, Next Goal Wins, French Exit, The Father, U.S. vs Billie Holiday and Dune all seem like they could be contenders at this point.

I love Viola but I wonder why is she always predicted to win lead actress.?.?

If there’s one WOC who could win in Lead after 20 years, it’s Viola Davis. If not then Cynthia Erivo.

Halle Berry preparing for her Rocky moment with Bruised…

If Bruised disappoints, Barry Jenkins should cast her in a supporting role so she can get nomination #2.

I think Viola will win Lead Actress. Politics will almost certainly play a role this year.

Could we see a year like 2002 where two POC win in lead?

Regina King winning Director would be the ultimate statement.

Scratch that, I forgot there’s a song in this. Leslie Odom Jr. is getting nominated for sure.

It can happen but I don’t see Netlfix risking his chances of actually winning by campaigning double for him. A double nomination could lead to a vote split with himself.

I’m thinking they are more likely to campaign Boseman for supporting in Ma Rainey even though he’s more of a lead in the original source material imo. He has a better shot at securing a nom for Ma Rainey than Da 5 Bloods (I think Lindo will be the lone nom for that film) if that answers your question.
