Benedetta deserved much better than what it got. Charlotte Rampling absolutely robbed. Not to mention the techs snubs. France also deserved some tech love like Costumes, Set Design and Sound. Even Cinematography. I also liked Emanuele Arioli in it. I was rooting for Léa to finally win the César but with how much the movie underperformed, I think she’ll have to wait a bit more.

Vincent Lindon snub is beyond ridiculous tho. Makes no sense.January 26, 2022 at 10:25 am #1204750958All this love for Annette… meh
Vincent Lindon was ROBBED

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 26, 2022 at 10:26 am #1204750970Was Vincent Lindon considered/submitted as a lead here? There were previous occasions where actors who were considered supporting in US-based awards were nominated in lead at the Césars, such as Bérénice Bejo in The Artist and Léa Seydoux in Blue Is the Warmest Colour.

I think he was lead everywhere in France. Lumière and Paris Critics. But there’s always the possibility of category confusion. Marion Cotillard also missed with Annette spamming.

Surprised that with all the love for Annette there was no nomination for Marion Cotillard.
Benedetta only getting one nomination is very surprising – Virginie Efira should already be a Cesar winner for her amazing performance in An Impossible Love.
Titane only got 4 nominations: Director, Promising Actress, Visual Effects, and Cinematography.
Adam Driver getting a nomination is very interesting – can he do what Kristen Stewart did and win a Cesar award?

Unfortunately Adam Driver looks to be the next American to win Cesar… 💀

January 26, 2022 at 2:57 pm #1204751793I absolutely love the trailer for Lost Illusions – does anybody know if this movie will have a U.S. release?
Quite a few of the trailers look to be really wonderful, actually!

Music Box have the US rights so expect a release sometime in 2022.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 27, 2022 at 9:51 pm #1204755865I’m personally thrilled by those 10 nominations Aline received. One of the very best films I saw in 2021. Particularly for Canadian character actress Danielle Fichaud who nobody seems to have predicted who turns the conventional ‘mother’s role’ into something very special.
Hopefully, Valérie Lemercier which be carrying arms fill of Caesars next month!
Also, a special shout up of appreciation for Adèle Exarchopoulos hilarious supporting actress turn that is so deserving. She completely stole Mandibules.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 28, 2022 at 3:15 am #1204756089There’s a pretty good chance Adam will win as they don’t tend to nominate Americans unless they plan to award them, and there’s clearly passion for the film (of which he’s also a producer and was a big reason Leos even got the funding to get it made). That will have generated a lot of goodwill in French circles. Also his performance is genuinely excellent and is basically the whole film.
The Vincent snub is weird but sadly feels related to the poor Paris critics rating of Titane overall.
Virginie is surely taking best actress…?

Yeah, I love Adam Driver, so I have no problem with him being rewarded. And Vincent Lindon already had a cesar a few years ago so… He’s clearly one of best actors that’s for sure. Pierre Niney in Black Box deserved a recognition so I’m happy to see him in the race.
Kiss from France
