They really went out on a limb not to award a single poc
Not even giving McCormack the Rising Star award is dirty work

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 19, 2023 at 1:15 pm #1205309766It almost feels like the POCs are finally having a big year this time and then BAFTA came out midway giving absolutely everything they possibly can to prevent it.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 19, 2023 at 1:15 pm #1205309768The juries continue to be a performative and half-hearted solution to a deeply broken screening and voting system. The BAFTAs won’t improve until a clear majority of their membership cares about making a change.

Deadwyler!
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 19, 2023 at 1:20 pm #1205309786so is banshees gonna win screenplay at oscars so is just a favourite , grand budapest , Three billboards and licorice pizza winning bafta then losing oscar ? bafta doesn’t have a good correlation with os award so well

I will say that those people who can call themselves Bafta nominees who wouldn’t otherwise do at least get something out of it.
But yes, most of the membership enjoys the status quo.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 19, 2023 at 1:21 pm #1205309795Depends on the actor Will Smith just last season was just as mediocre. I agree if it was a newcomer PoC tho.
Will Smith won because he won SAG before that and was a frontrunner. You think he had any chance otherwise? Lol no

- The Last of UsFebruary 19, 2023 at 1:21 pm #1205309801I’m presuming that Berger benefitted from the absence of Spielberg in the field like Scanlan did with Chastain last year but that best film win for All Quiet on the Western Front is interesting (especially seeing as for the past 15 years the winner here has either been the Oscar frontrunner or Globe winner). Although I wonder if it is more of a domestic response to the war in Ukraine like with Navalny winning than a foreshadowing of something to come at the Oscars.
The races in Best Actor and Actress are finished.

Nah Deadwyler didn’t give the same type of performance as Butler.
She was better.
