They have Hayao Miyazaki’s movie coming up though. That might be enough for a nod.

“The Only Anime Is Ghibli” syndrome is about as frustrating as “All Anime Is Naughty Tentacles”.

Things I learned from these nominations:

    – GKIDS is pretty much done for as an Oscars campaigner.

    – Cartoon Saloon’s streak is over.

    – The Academy really, REALLY wants nothing to do with anime.

    – They’re also tired of non-American animated movies in general.

    – We might not see traditional animated movies in that category again.

    – Being nominated at the Globes and Critics Choice no longer guarantees a nomination.

    – The Academy prefers family-friendly movies.

Wait, what do you mean “tired of non-American animated movies in general”?

How can any awards group be “tired” of something they’ve barely acted upon?

Help me manifest this Best Original Song category at the 95th Oscars!:
(contenders as of end of November)

    "Dragon Commander" (Inu-oh)
    "Good Tonight" (The Bad Guys)
"Hold My Hand" (Top Gun: Maverick)
"Lucky Ducks" (The Bob's Burgers Movie)
"Naatu Naatu" (RRR: Rise, Roar, Revolt)

so much for people hoping for marcel/pinocchio to get extra noms. all on a level playing field.

    turning red rises.

    Rise to where lol?
It stays at #3-#4 no matter how Pinocchio or Puss in Boots performs.

Meh I’m still root rooting for Turning Red.

Pretty good list although watch out for Nimona, Wildwood or maybe Mario if that actually ends up being really good.

It sure was thoughtful of the Academy to snub Alexandre Desplat so that it doesn’t appear to be completely obvious that Pinocchio is winning

The Oscars love the illusion of uncertainty.

Not like that helped Desplat when he was nominated for 2018’s Isle of Dogs (which I vastly prefer over Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse).

Nah, Desplat could end up replacing John Williams as the AMPAS Music branch’s perennial bridesmaid.

I’d rather they just snub Miyazaki, just to be fair in their treatment of Japanese anime.

If they decide to postpone its American release, then Suzume MIGHT get in if Sony and Crunchyroll put out a good campaign.

Pretty good list although watch out for Nimona, Wildwood or maybe Mario if that actually ends up being really good.

If Elemental is Lightyear or The Good Dinosaur levels of bad, then any of those may have a chance.

Don’t know what effect this will have on its award campaign, but Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume will be competing for the Golden Bear:

Wes Anderson won Best Director at Berlinale 2018 for Isle of Dogs, but that ultimately meant little as the year progressed.

My dream Best Director 2018 category included Anderson and Masaaki Yuasa (The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl).
