Oh man, DO NOT get me started on how Funimation failed to get Your Name. into Best Animated Feature 2016 categories, not just at the Oscars, but in most of the regional critics groups following its MASSIVE LAFCA victory.

After Your Name missed, I basically gave up entirely on ever predicting another non-Studio Ghibli anime for Animated Feature at the Oscars

But then Mirai happened… so I guess it’s still possible, just super rare

I wonder if Marcel the Shell with Shoes On can sweep the NYFCC, National Board and LAFCA awards for animated feature.

It seems like when it comes to year end lists, it’s the one with the most critic support.

Apollo 10 1/2 and Marcel made it to the New Yorker’s best films of 2022 list.

That’s because GKIDS made the right decision to release that movie before the end of the year, when critics start compiling their top-10 lists.

With today’s list announced, I am cleaning up the animated feature category for Oscars, Globes and Critics Choice. Removing 7 films that did not qualify. Adding 8 films that we did not have before.

turning red now higher than pinocchio on mc.

is pinocchio really gonna ‘easily’ win just cuz of the director? as pointed out, nyfcc already didn’t bow before him.

Sure, but between Mamoru Hosoda’s Mirai and Masaaki Yuasa’s The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl, GKIDS picked the safer film to promote. (BTW, Night Is Short… remains in my top 5 for 2018, along with Isle of Dogs.)

And now Yuasa has Inu-oh, the year after GKIDS couldn’t get Hosoda’s Belle nominated.

Help me manifest this Best Original Song category at the 95th Oscars!:
(contenders as of end of November)

    "Dragon Commander" (Inu-oh)
    "Good Tonight" (The Bad Guys)
"Hold My Hand" (Top Gun: Maverick)
"Lucky Ducks" (The Bob's Burgers Movie)
"Naatu Naatu" (RRR: Rise, Roar, Revolt)

NATIONAL BOARD OF REVIEW ANNOUNCES 2022 AWARD WINNERS

Another win for Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, much to my surprise.

Maybe guaranteed a nomination now, bar any Lego Movie shenanigans.

I’m betting on a Trifecta tbh. For Marcel the Shell with Shoes on. Next stop, LAFCA.

Puss in Boots 2 was surprisingly really good. Definitely better than all three Disney contenders this year. If the weak first one got in, this one should be a lock in a rather empty year like this.

    For Your Consideration:
The Banshees of Inisherin in ALL categories, including:
    - Best Picture
    - Best Director
    - Best Actor (Colin Farrell)
    - Best Supporting Actor (Brendan Gleeson)
    - Best Supporting Actor (Barry Keoghan)
    - Best Supporting Actress (Kerry Condon)
    - Best Supporting Actress (Sheila Flitton)
    - Best Original Screenplay
