December 11, 2022 at 12:52 pm #1205188153Is it possible that the Academy’s visual effects branch could help Phil Tippett’s Mad God get nominated? He also worked for George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Paul Verhoeven, etc.
December 11, 2022 at 1:48 pm #1205188235hmm so marcel the top critics’ fave.

December 12, 2022 at 8:33 am #1205190567Pleasantly surprised about Inu-Oh being nominated, but last year the Globes had My Sunny Maad, which didn’t make it to the Oscars.

I just love movies. And awards.

Turning Red will win!
Pinocchio down to 70s on Metacritic, 70s on imdb.
That, plus Disney bias and TR not being either live-action hybrid or ugly stop motion…

Eh I’m 50-50 on either Pinocchio or Turning Red winning.
Pinocchio is more recent and it also has Guillermo Del Toro’s name on it…

While Turning Red has Pixar/Disney name on it and they win like 90% of the time.
Pinocchio is not causing that much of an impression and as stated, the critical love isn’t that strong.This is Turning Red’s to lose.
FYC:
The HBO darlings everywhere (The Last of Us, Succession, The White Lotus, Perry Mason, Somebody Somewhere, White House Plumbers, Love & Death);
The Apple gang (Bad Sisters, Slow Horses, Shrinking, Ted Lasso, Black Bird);
Poker Face, The Great, The Bear, Evil (especially Katja Herbers) and The Good Fight.Please! These gays, they're trying to murder me!

strange thing to say about a movie with 97% on rottentomatoes.
I of course prefer TR to Pinoc, but I’d say they’re evenly matched in terms of critics liking them.
December 12, 2022 at 8:00 pm #1205192216Why the sudden hate in Pinocchio in this forum? Weird

Del Toro’s Pinocchio just doesn’t have any stans for it at the moment. Some Turning Red stans (including me) are here and some people who want Japanese movies to be nominated are here as well.

The strongest weapon it has is its stunning animation work, and for that it deserves an Oscars way more than Turning Red imo.
