Turning Red on top as it deserves
December 25, 2022 at 1:51 am #1205209119https://www.metacritic.com/feature/film-critics-pick-10-best-movies-of-2022
Since we’re talking about metacritic and animated movies, here’s how they fare on the year end lists.
#18, 27 points: Del Toro’s Pinocchio
#29, 18 points: Marcel the Shell With Shoes On
#30, 17.5 points: Turning Red
Apollo 10 1/2 seems to have 11 points and doesn’t make the top 30.
December 25, 2022 at 2:31 pm #1205209466Apollo 10 1/2 will be really lucky if it manages to get nominated. The animation branch of the academy didn’t even want to consider it.

unlike those two other movies, it’s a financial flop too.
December 26, 2022 at 8:28 pm #1205210413I just returned from seeing Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
I am now fully on board. I may even bump it up above Turning Red.

Well sure. Virtually nothing stands in Pinocchio‘s way at this point.
I was slightly on the fence for Puss in Boot‘s nomination, it being “a shrek spinoff sequel” and all, but after seeing it, I get what all the fuss is about.
A snub for Puss in Boot: The Last Wish would be more shocking to me than a snub for Turning Red.

Well it would be shocking to me because Puss in Boots 2 has like almost no awards traction from critics, good reviews or not.
My ideas of the nominees are
Del Toro’s Pinocchio
Turning Red
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
Wendell & Wild
Puss in Boots 2
Actually I’d be surprised if it was not these 5 movies.

In true Soderbergh fashion, I could see The Bad Guys snatch up one of those spots.

Netflix is clearly prioritizing GDT’s Pinocchio at this point, sadly but understandably leaving Apollo 10 1/2 in the dust. Meanwhile, Dreamworks has elected for exploiting short memory spans by propping up Puss in Boots: The Last Wish over The Bad Guys. (Nevertheless, it helps that Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is quite well-made, having seen it last night.)
Still hoping there’s room for Inu-oh in the end.
Help me manifest this Best Original Song category at the 95th Oscars!:
(contenders as of end of November)

"Dragon Commander" (Inu-oh)
"Good Tonight" (The Bad Guys)
"Hold My Hand" (Top Gun: Maverick)
"Lucky Ducks" (The Bob's Burgers Movie)
"Naatu Naatu" (RRR: Rise, Roar, Revolt)December 28, 2022 at 2:16 am #1205211552Wendell & Wild got into the Critics Choice Awards, which I don’t understand since reviews weren’t that great and there were more acclaimed options.
Because the voters are lazy and/or have terrible taste.
Still hoping there’s room for Inu-oh in the end.
Inu-oh deserves to replace that Wendell & Wild bullshit and get in.
The ideal lineup looks like this:
Pinnochio
Turning Red
Marcell the Shell with Shoes On
Puss in the Boots: The Last Wish

Inu-ohYup, between Inu-oh and Dolly De Leon (Best Supporting Actress for Triangle of Sadness), the Golden Globes nominations this year were TASTEFUL, even with the outrageous moves like snubbing Danielle Deadwyler (Till) in Best Actress (Drama).
