I didn’t know there was such a thing as a midseason movie award. This practically assures Turning Red is winning BAF.
Well it’s just a thing that Hollywood Film Critics Association does. I wouldn’t go as far as say it’s locked to win the Oscar, but given that it’s a Pixar movie distributed by Disney, it’s likely.

Inu-OhMy prediction for nominees. With Turning Red as frontrunner.
edit: just realized my predictions haven’t changed in the past three weeks.

It seems like Marcel will be the default indie animated nomination next year. How accurate has Variety been with these predictions?

I don’t know. The people here don’t think that the author of this piece is very accurate though.
Looking at what the author predicted for the Song category, the whole thing just looks sloppy.

Thinking I don’t know that? It’s usually by Cartoon Saloon. My Father’s Dragon is it this year.

Well there are many bad reviews for it, as it’s 71% on rottentomatoes.
Illumination animation has only been nominated once, for Despicable Me 2, so the chances are slim.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 2, 2022 at 10:57 am #1205002298If Marcel the Shell With Shoes counts, this is my prediction:
1. Turning Red
2. Pinocchio (Del Toro)
3. Wendell & Wild
4. Marcel the Shell With Shoes
5. My Father’s Dragon
In order of likeliness of winning.

Well, Wolfwalkers was distributed by them.
I guess it’s just dependent on the movies they can get their hands on. They’re a distributor, not a production company.
That said, Inu-Oh looks cool.

That was mainly an Apple release though. I’m still shocked Belle was snubbed; that one was a shoo-in for a nomination. Was it the January release date?

Could be. It was eligible and it was submitted for consideration, though. It was just passed over.
The Disney pull of Encanto, Raya, (and the Pixar film Luca) I guess crowded it out. Flee and Mitchells were critically acclaimed too.
