Gaga fans bringing up Beyonce. Always on your mind.
Nah, y’all want to bring charts into this discussion and she’s just the perfect example with her last single of how the Billboard Hot100 is pointless and very manipulable in certain cases, for the rest we’re talking about Oscars in here and there’s no much correlation between the two.
November 21, 2022 at 6:24 am #1205162475If the Academy deems Vegas eligible then I think it will win. As someone said the hardest part is probably getting nom. Not only is it a huge hit, but Elvis is looking up to a bigger contender than Wakanda Forever, and Doja Cat is the hot new shit on the block. I don’t think there’s an urge to award Gaga again, especially a song that most people are kinda indiferent on.
Doja Cat is indeed “the hot new shit on the block,” but that’s exactly what could hurt her, imo. We all know how snobbish the Academy can be towards female popstars, let alone a female popstar of color who happens to be hyper sexual. Doja is just not the “kind” of popstar the Academy is known for awarding. Hell, it took Gaga collaborating with Diane Warren to even get acknowledged, and then to star in a successful blockbuster AND score a massive hit in order for the Academy to acknowledge her again. I just don’t see the precedent for her being awarded, and tbh, I feel the same about Rihanna. It’s hard for newbies to win in this category because voters always default to the populist film.
With that said, Doja, Rihanna, or Gaga winning are all fine with me, I just don’t think some of the logic y’all’re using is sound when taking historical precedent into account.

I was going to bring up ‘It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp’ winning, but there were only three nominees that year and zero competition lol.

November 21, 2022 at 9:24 am #1205162715“My mind and Me” wins Variety’s Film Song of the Year. I know this is an irrelevant award but it’s part of the awards season so..

That’s the same award that was presented to Billie and Finneas last year. Not the same situation for both songs but interesting to see

November 21, 2022 at 11:59 am #1205162867They are coming
A song that’s barely more than a chorus, regardless of how passionately performed it is towards the end.
And its songwriters literally just won for a far superior song, so there’s no urgency whatsoever.
***bitterly weeps for “Lucky Ducks” (The Bob’s Burgers Movie), “Good Tonight” (The Bad Guys), “Take a Look at Us Now” (Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile—not even submitted), and “Dragon Commander” (Inu-oh)***
