That was kinda boring.
Let me wait for the movie to see if it’ll hit me stronger.
I just love movies. And awards.
October 27, 2022 at 9:54 pm #1205135018“Lift Me Up” is a lot better than “Hold my Hand” in my opinion. Just has an emotional aspect to it that Gaga’s song doesn’t. Yes, it’s very simple, but for me it’s also very effective. Especially as it will be the last thing people hear after a very emotional film is done, I think this has much higher chances to win. Do Academy voters even remember “Hold my Hand” at this point?

That might have been true with a much better singer. There’s nothing emotional or effective about her vocals here. If anything she literally knocked me out of my sleepy state the moment she started singing. It was jarring.
October 27, 2022 at 10:01 pm #1205135022I was excited to hear the song but it’s really not great. It might not even be nominated unless the scene is super emotional. Am I right in saying it’s just end credits or is there a funeral scene that goes with it? Rihanna’s not big with Oscar voters like Gaga is so everyone expecting the Gagaslide to be halted by this will be sorely disappointed.

October 27, 2022 at 10:03 pm #1205135026The only reason I think Rihanna will win this is because Disney is gonna campaign hard and use the whole “this is a tribute to Chadwick” narrative all the way to the Oscar stage. However, if Top Gun makes it for Picture while Black Panther misses, I may be tempted to predict Gaga.
Both Hold My Hand and Lift Me Up are inferior to Take My Breath Away and All The Stars, no one will remember these songs.

You seem to not like Rihanna very much (which is fine and I’m not someone who is a Rihanna fanboy or anything close to that at all), but there is nothing wrong here about her vocal performance, any professional musician or music producer will tell you that. If the song doesn’t get nominated or doesn’t win, it won’t be because the vocals in the song are bad (because they aren’t).

And exactly who died before making you the spokesperson for every professional musician and music producer on earth?

Saw someone on twitter saying they use the melody during the film and then the song only at the credits. Don’t know if it’s true or not.

October 27, 2022 at 10:16 pm #1205135038Anyway, I have nothing against Rihanna. I was hoping she’d bring something good enough to knock Gaga out of the race so she doesn’t jeopardize her future chances in Best Actress.
This just ain’t it, but good luck to her still. I’d love to be proven wrong.
October 27, 2022 at 10:34 pm #1205135045thought she’d serve a See You Again esque, but Rih this is a damn lullaby nn

I can’t see this song doing well with Oscar voters really. It’s just far too slow and goes nowhere. Hold my hand sounds a lot more epic for sure and I’m not even the biggest fan of that song.
October 27, 2022 at 11:04 pm #1205135057Lift Me Up is… nice. Gaga, you are still in the race.
October 27, 2022 at 11:25 pm #1205135060It doesn’t have to be “Oscar worthy” to win the Oscar. lol “Lift Me Up” is kinda a whatever song, but those types of songs are rewarded here. Rihanna is a big star, whose making a huge comeback at the Superbowl. The song was also written by Ludwig Goransson, and it does have the sentimental value of being a tribute song to Chadwick Boseman. Yes, Gaga is still in the race, but “Hold My Hand” isn’t an undeniable song, and Gaga really doesn’t have a narrative going into this race. I’d rather both lose altogether, but that’s probably not going to happen.

I guess Gagas narrative is she is Lady Gaga and the song features in one of the biggest hits of all time. It’s a power ballad with huge vocals and it is heavily featured in the film unlike a lot of the other prospective films including Lift me up. The real deserving song is Naatu Naatu from RRR but we have no idea whether that movie will garner any nominations at all
