Curious to hear The Weeknd track, if it is eligible it does spice things up a bit when it comes to star power x blockbuster movie. Making it a potential 3 way battle alongside Gaga & Rihanna

    IndieWire published a new article

Only something as massive as Rihanna’s long-awaited return to music could avoid standing in the shadow of Lady Gaga’s anthemic “Top Gun: Maverick” theme “Hold My Hand.” Written for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” by Tems, Muni Long, the film’s composer Ludwig Göransson, writer-director Ryan Coogler, and Rihanna herself, “Lift Me Up” has been accurately described as a lullaby, but still has that sweeping resonance that will keep it top of mind as Academy members vote for Best Original Song.

TBH, Marvel/Disney/Rihanna’s Label/Whomever are definitely pushing this song big time with all of these PR articles. It may actually pay off in a race that will be all about exposure and name recognition.

I don’t see The Weeknd being much of a threat even if he is ultimately eligible. One of the girls is taking this.

So yeah the Weeknd’s song is played in the credits and people don’t like it.

The Black Panther song is easily walking away with this one.

So… he won’t push his music at the Grammys but will at the Golden Globes. Make it make sense.

i mean his vendetta was against the Grammys who snubbed AH as a whole that included the biggest song of the decade, the AMPAS are already known to be snobby against popstars, tho he did garner a nom in ‘16, so probably thinks he has a great shot w Avatar

Oh, I thought his vendetta against the Grammys was about corruption so that’s why I thought it was odd to then go to the Golden Globes.

I could be totally off base, but I just don’t see it for The Weeknd. Maybe a nomination since it’s Avatar and the movie will be coming to sweep the craft categories, but I don’t see the song making an impact.

Again, this is premature so we’ll have to wait and see. I feel like the movie is going to be so big that it’ll overshadow any song attached to it, if that makes sense.

I wouldn’t exclude him, he is a previous nominee and with a song attached to a trash movie.

The real question is, will Gaga, Weeknd and Rihanna make it all three or somebody will get snubbed? I don’t recall a time in which this category got 3 songs from big popstars attached to 3 big sequels.
