“Naatu Naatu” and “Ciao Papa” both got Globe noms. If either of them (especially “Naatu Naatu”) gets past the HFPA’s love affair with Taylor Swift, they could easily win. I also just learned that the “Naatu Naatu” scene in RRR was filmed outside Ukraine’s presidential palace just months before the Russian invasion. I can just imagine Volodymyr Zelenskyy introducing it on the Oscarcast; if so it’ll be nearly impossible to beat.
I’m not sure where this “Swift love affair” narrative is coming from regarding the Globes? They love stars in general.
But I agree, tbh. I don’t think NN or CP need the Globe to win and consider them win competitive. CP is the best song in the bunch and deserves to win above the others.
Has anyone in the history of award shows desperately wanted an award as much as Diane Warren wants The Oscar for Best Song? She’s always in the mix.
In her defense, wouldn’t you be thirsty to finally win after being nominated 3,203 times?
December 30, 2022 at 4:11 pm #1205214617Bitch nobody gives a fuck about either of you idiots. Go count the fucking unique words in your head since you have no time but to obsess over a bitch getting an award that you will never get.
You obviously care enough with being punctually perched in our quote button about everything we say, stupid asshole, not to mention the continue references even from things we said weeks and weeks ago you punctually do, reality is you’re the one obsessed with us.
Time to put this scum of the Earth on ignore. Another one.
December 30, 2022 at 4:45 pm #1205214633What are you, 12? You’re the one instigating this BS by constantly calling people who criticize Rihanna xenophobic. I like @Opium (we fought for our lives every day during the House of Gucci campaign) and I’ve defended them from your baseless accusations multiple times, but I’m also grown enough to know when things they say don’t sit right and so I call them out. I didn’t like what they said about Rihanna’s English speaking skills and made that clear in a respectful way. That’s how adults behave. If @Opium wants to get angrier at me for coming at them respectfully than someone like you who is constantly implying they’re a bigot, I’m fine with that.
I am not mad or angry with you at all, otherwise I would have told you directly, but not gonna lie I was annoyed in general since for once that I was minding my business and not commenting on that matter, I just wanted to be left out of that discussion that had nothing to do with my last posts in here, for once.
That being said, it’s water under the bridge. Remember when we were also accused of being the same user last season? Those trolls are nowhere to be found now, properly because we fought with a lot of haters in here and being on the same page, let’s not let those miserable people putting us against each other🌹

The anger… yikes. Girl, this is the Best Original Song thread; we’re all in here obsessing over people who may win an award we never will. That is quite literally the point of this forum. No need to take it so personally and get angry at people.
For future reference, if you’re ever in need of a unique word counter, here’s a link to one: https://planetcalc.com/3205/ Work smarter, not harder.

It’s totally my fault, and I am sorry about that. I got a little trigger happy and in the process threw you under the bus when I don’t even believe you’re like how that user is trying to imply. We have to stick together! ❤️
December 31, 2022 at 3:59 am #1205215002Why this sudden Academy fetish for James Bond? I remember that Adele was a sure bet to win with ‘Skyfall’, but some still feared the fact that no bond song had won in 50 years of history. Then we had two other diluted versions of ‘Skyfall’ created in the laboratory winning.
Adele, trend-setting queen! I think it’s just an easy win with voters when there are no other big-name candidates in line. As has been mentioned, voters only see the movie and song name on the ballot so if you’re a James Bond film among several smaller, less-known movies, you’re going to win by default.
Adele such a bad bitch she made a whole franchise have a secure spot in original song cause of her power.
More like 50 years of the Music Branch all but ignoring Bond themes. It took the rule changes limiting end credit songs & requiring a video of the song’s use in the film to break that bias; both of those favor Bond themes as they usually play over Daniel Kleinman’s opening credits.
Notice how it took a Beatle (“Live & Let Die” by Paul McCartney with his wife Linda) and an Oscar winner for the Let It Be film for AMPAS’ Music branch to nominate a Bond theme, 8 FILMS into the series.
Notice how it took until Adele for AMPAS to finally award the Bond theme song pantheon, nearly all of which should’ve been up for contention in their respective years. (Even the mediocre themes end up becoming halfway memorable because they’re forever a part of this distinguished Bond theme music family.)
Notice how ALL 3 Bond theme song winners so far came in the immediate aftermath of their composers/performing artists’ big Grammy nights. (Seriously, just WATCH the Oscars blogosphere come off unenthusiastic, should a future Bond installment hire for its theme song an up-and-comer, a washed-up yet seasoned veteran, or a fairly-popular yet accolade-less performer.)

Funnily enough, she has a slight advantage when it comes to name recognition since the name of her song has her name in it (at least in the shortlist).
Whether or not seeing the name Selena Gomez will turn voters off or not, I’m not sure.

On that note, only three artists have ever won all four General Field Grammys in their career: Christopher Cross & Billie Eilish each won all four in one evening, while Adele won Best New Artist for her first album & the other three for her second (AND her third, AND is nommed again for her fourth). All three topped their unique Grammy sweeps with the Oscar for BOS. (McCartney, including his work with The Beatles, has been ROTY shy of a sweep since 1968; so was John Lennon before his death. George & Ringo didn’t share in their SOTY win for “Michelle”.)

Bit of a Grammy digression, but The Beatles’ Grammy wins (apart from AOTY for Sgt. Pepper’s) are weird. “Michelle” for SOTY, instead of “Yesterday” the year before. In particular, “Hey Jude” should’ve won ROTY instead of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Mrs. Robinson”.

Interesting, so based on this LMU is leading with its 3 wins. HMH, Naatu Naatu, Ciao Papa all have 1

Pretty sure HMH won other awards, however not that it matters or make any big difference anyway.
Only the Globes can make a difference in this category especially if they go with a popular conteder but still won’t be a final deal for the Oscar.
