The Music Branch is really simple and bland. They love nominating songs attached to Oscar contenders or songs by respected industry veterans

I agree. If they were so worried about viewership they won’t just keep Gaga and Rihanna in and left Taylor and Selena out. They could totally create a nomination list of 4 big pop stars if that’s the purpose. The fact that the Mitski song got in despite being overlooked the whole season tells the importance of being attached to a strong movie.

I love the Mitski and David Byrne inclusion, but “new body rhumba” was THE banger of the season and got robbed in favour of ANOTHER boring-ass Diane Warren song. Talk about an injustice.

Personally I think Applause is a basic and cringe song which sounds like a random ballad from a cheap movie for teenagers. In my opinion it is the worst Oscar nominated song by Diane Warren. New Body Rhumba or Ciao Papa deserved this spot.

Darling, I said it SOUNDS. I’m not talking about lyrics.

The only ‘Applause’ worth of an Oscar:

I think they meant how the lyrics are just as basic as the sound

I just listened to Diane Warren’s Applause for the first time. I’m not a fan of Sofia Carson’s singing in general and this song hasn’t changed my opinion and indeed the lyrics are awful. I hope that Applause doesn’t win. It would be a terrible winner.

Lowkey cackling at Rihanna tweeting and thanking the Globes for her nomination and then when it comes to THE ACADEMY and getting her first Oscar nomination….CRICKETS 🤣

This proves that songcord should of gotten the oscar push and nom over that weeknd song. This song is better then ALL the nominees.

A little bit of Magic never hurt anybody.

Dianne is never gonna win a competitive Oscar, if they keep nominating her every year like this they just extend her record losing streak

I don’t know if anyone mentioned this already, but the Oscars nominees luncheon is happening on February 13, which is right after Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance on the 12th.

So Rihanna should easily be the most buzzed about attendee that day, since it’s gonna be her first appearance after performing to over 100 million people.
This can help her tremendously with her winning chances…

Not to downplay the immense achievement a Super Bowl performance is, but they’re two entirely different worlds. The “most buzzed about attendees” will be people from EEAAO and other Oscar picture favorites.

Will “Tell It Like A Woman” be available to stream before March 12? Now that it’s nominated for original song, I hope it is picked up by a streaming service or at least available to purchase on VOD within the next few weeks. It’s not currently available anywhere.
