Not to downplay the immense achievement a Super Bowl performance is, but they’re two entirely different worlds. The “most buzzed about attendees” will be people from EEAAO and other Oscar picture favorites.
This is simply not true. Unless “buzzed” has a new meaning Rihanna will undoubtedly be the most talked about person that day perhaps even week as that user said.
We all saw what happened at the Golden Globes where the host and several winners all used it as an opportunity to name drop her.
Now will all that talk on social media and in the press really sway ppl to put votes towards her just because…. Probably not but point still stands

To think someone whose sole nomination is for a category most people don’t care about will be the “most talked about person” is delusional. It just doesn’t fall in line with what we’ve seen. People will for sure be excited about Rihanna’s celebrity status, including my own fave, but that’s where it begins and ends. Had she won at the GG then I would agree, but it makes no sense to say this.
January 31, 2023 at 6:28 pm #1205278858The performance in the Super Bowl Will generate a huge buzz but that may not be enough for Rihanna, since the vote for the Oscars will begin 20 days later, with enough time for EEAAO to take the headlines
In addition, she will have less than 15 minutes to sing her 13 songs #1 and other giant hits of her career, I don’t see how Lift Me Up can conquer a space in the middle of itFebruary 1, 2023 at 7:40 am #1205279333For Wakanda.

Wakanda Forever went on Disney+, with its release are all 5 BOS nominees now available for streaming?

Nah, Rihanna is comfortably top three and no one’s denying that.
I only said what I said because not even Gaga was the “most buzzed about” person at the luncheon when she was nominated for Best Actress and Original Song.
February 1, 2023 at 1:01 pm #1205279926Voting begins early March after SAG, Brits, etc. People aren’t going to be voting for Rihanna because she performed at the Super Bowl 3 weeks before voting begins. Let’s be realistic here.
February 1, 2023 at 1:10 pm #1205279942Just pointing out. H.E.R. won the BOS Oscar the same year she performed America the Beautiful at the Super Bowl. Not saying that performing at the super bowl has anything to do with winning an Oscar but it is part of the Campaign.

Because she didn’ perform at the SuperBowl the day before like idk what you’re not getting? Lol
February 1, 2023 at 2:07 pm #1205280031Phil Collins won his Oscar after performing at the Super Bowl.
H.E.R won her Oscar without winning any precursor after performing at the Super Bowl.
We’re not saying it’s a lock or a sure thing but at the luncheon do you really think they are going to talk about the Oscars with each other the entire time?? They don’t live in a vacuum.
February 1, 2023 at 3:31 pm #1205280109I don’t think H.E.R. is a good example cause considering how bleak her category was she was mostly a default pick from the exposure of her film + her already being a respected musician in her branch. Highly doubt America the Great had weight in it, perhaps even winning SOTY had more.
But I don’t deny that Rihanna’s case is indeed different cause the halftime repercussion is beyond the boundaries. And depending how (or if) she inserts LMU in the setlist it will bring a special attention to that specific song, and not just her comeback to the stage (which is already a big deal). Like Million Reasons becoming a hit after Gaga performed at the Super Bowl or Shallow goin #1 after the Oscars.
Still believe Naatu Naatu gathered enough goodwill within the industry but am curious if Rihanna becomes a big play at it again.
February 1, 2023 at 3:44 pm #1205280123I’ll prefer Rihanna to win over Naatu Naatu. But I am not firm about the Super Bowl=winning theory…First, Super Bowl is a very American thing and the Academy contains many non-Americans. Also Super Bowl isn’t exactly on the same trajectory as Hollywood since SB is one of the most conservative events of all time.
I suspect the ones that care about the SB are gonna be mostly striaght white men. And they will definitely be more interested in talking about football than half time performance. However, I would place Rihanna second to Naatu Naatu due to the fact that she would certainly have more exposure than Gaga, Mitski, or Warren.
February 1, 2023 at 4:13 pm #1205280140Gaga doesn’t need to lift a finger, she’s always been riding the TG wave this entire time, if the movie gets a surge from the guild awards (PGA, ACE, CAS) right before voting than she could upset

lol
February 2, 2023 at 2:01 am #1205280566The obvious thing would be predicting NN, of course. But it will all come down to whether the Academy members want to give a consolation prize to RRR or they want to award strong contenders like HMH or LMU like they usually do.
