Darling, nobody asking, but here’s my ranking of these song nominess
1. Naatu Naatu (over the top, catchy, and fun)
2. This Is A Life (pretty good song that sums up the entire movie perfectly)
3. Applause (the lyrics are cheesy but catchy, pretty good for motivating your sorry ass on a slow afternoon)
4. Lift Me Up (“ho me, ho me, ho meee” lol…)
5. Hold My Hand (not fan with the tune, especially at ‘…don’t let go of my hand…”February 3, 2023 at 10:36 am #1205282508I don’t get It
We always say this category
is pure name check and it is always won by the popular film or a film that is a strong contenderAnd that that is the reason why Diane Warren keeps losing, cuz she makes songs for for small movies that aré non events among the academy
What’s different this year?

film twitter + critics rally of RRR will supposedly carry into voting and overcome the outlier

Solely because it’s the only nomination for the film. I know films have won this category being a lone nominee before but usually it’s still for a film that was contending for other categories before being snubbed or has gotten nominations/wins for things at other awards shows. RRR kind of didn’t do that after the critics awards unfortunately. So while, I think Naatu Naatu is still going to win, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is an upset considering there are 2 films here that are Best Picture nominees and another that’s contending for an acting win. Everyone always says they just choose the most popular film in this category.
February 4, 2023 at 1:09 am #1205283291They should start the show with “Naatu Naatu”
February 4, 2023 at 3:17 am #1205283338I don’t think the Oscars care about giving RRR a consolation prize. If they cared that much they would have nominated it for Best Picture and other things. So I don’t buy that excuse for it potentially winning. If it wins it’s because they like the song.

Not a fan of this category, but Naatu Naatu is probably the best usage of a song inside a film. RRR was such a trip and a good film although the songs went on a little too long. Almost made me lose interest.
Life is a thin thread.
We hang on tightly knowing

Anyone else catch it?
February 6, 2023 at 6:56 am #1205294004People talking about this huge buzz regarding Rihanna’s Super Bowl forget that she’s no Gaga or Beyonce as far as live performances go. The whole show might have playback which helped Shakira and Jlo and the choreo will be non existent. What may save her will be some extravagant sets

Yes. And the campaign specifically mentions 2 categories: Best Picture and Best Original Song. I believe the TGM campaign team is aiming BOS as the category that could potentially win TGM something at the ceremony.
However, if they did so earlier with either GG or CCA the situation will be much more comfortable. Now that NN won both GG and CCA it requires a significant upset to lose the title.
February 6, 2023 at 9:39 pm #1205295206TGM is likely to get Sound + Editing already, but obviously campaigning for the biggest award of the night & song thats nominated, written and performed, by one of the biggest coveted stars is the move for Paramount.
there can still be an upset despite the GG+CC combo, since NN was regulated as a standalone nom, voters might not be familiar with the film associated as well that might just have them check off the known blockbuster films they already like and have watched.

Tom Cruise was never going to campaign with the HFPA members and they were never going to award something to it, there’s a reason if the movie performed the worst with them, and CCA simply copy-paste their choices.
The recent years are proving that last minute campaign can be more effective than focus on precursors.
