• EEAO took the fifth spot, no prognosticator anticipated that.
• Rihanna’s chances of winning lowered since BPWK missed BP
• Why is the Academy still punishing Taylor Swift… ?

They’re not punishing Taylor. It’s always been the ‘right song’ but for the ‘wrong movie’. She should be smart picking the right movie to write a song for next time

EEAAO over Pinocchio for song and score is very annoying. I feel sorry for Alexandre Desplat for his amazing work.

Ciao Papa in the context of the film is so underwhelming. This Is A Life is haunting and beautiful. It’s the best alternative if say Naatu Naatu loses.

This is a Life fit the themes of EEAAO quite well. I predicted it here because it seemed kind of obvious to me that a BP nominee song would be nominated except I predicted Diane Warren to be snubbed💀. Never doubt her power again.

Thankfully I had it in my predictions. 100/1 odds paid off. I didn’t anticipate Ciao Papa missing for Diane though but at this point she should be an automatic guarantee. I don’t know how she does it every year.

RR didn’t miss International Film, India didn’t submit it…

Best Original Song was always going to be all the film gets in nominations after the lack of submission was revealed.

Few notes:

Top Gun and EEAAO benefit from being BP nominees. Either of them could win due to being default votes based on the love they got, especially in BP. EEAAO is clearly the Academy fave this year so maybe a shocker?

Rihanna remains a strong contender, but the narrative around Black Panther now seems to be focused on giving Angela her dues. That could overshadow Rihanna.
Naatu Naatu no longer struggles from name recognition, but I’m of two minds regarding its chances. The Academy as a whole votes for this award and it’s clear there’s not much love there for RRR. However, that could very well benefit the song as it would be the way the Academy could award the movie.

But yeah, not much clarification this morning.

It’s clear the noms of “This is A Life” and EEAAO score has more to do with the film being top BP contender.
