The reason Taylor hasn’t made it to the Oscars in the past is because of the qualifications. Safe and Sound was not eligible for the Oscars because it wasn’t used in the movie or the first song in the end credits. The Golden Globes have less rules for this category which is why she made it in there.

It’s also worth noting her other Golden Globe nominees were for One Chance and Cats. Her other movie soundtrack song was for the Fifty Shades series. Her eligible songs don’t come from the best movies at all.
That’s not to say Where The Crawdads Sing will be any more well received but I wouldn’t rule out her getting nominated if she just picks good movies in the future.

June 10, 2022 at 5:36 am #1204978792As a fan, I personally don’t want Gaga to win for this. She already won this category recently. And if she wins another Oscar this soon, I’m not sure she’ll have a winning chance for an acting role in the near future.
I think a nomination and an epic performance would be enough.
“I Ain’t Worried” isn’t winning though. Sounds too bubblegum.
June 13, 2022 at 9:29 pm #1204982771Taylor would’ve been nominated for Safe and Sound had it been eligible, but as for the rest, only Beautiful Ghosts was close to something the Academy would nominate but Cats was terrible. I don’t think Where The Crawdads Sing will be particularly well-received, but I do think Carolina will be. And it appears to be a folk song. So I think it’s in (if it’s in the movie or the 1st song in the credits.)

June 23, 2022 at 2:12 pm #1204994444I just want Carolina to be good. Has low prospects at the Oscars because Taylor can’t pick an Oscar-contending movie to save her life but I love the sound of the snippets.

June 23, 2022 at 4:15 pm #1204994581Everybody already knows that, but Lady Gaga is winning. On top of her star power and the song being good, Top Gun: Maverick is acclaimed and will probably get nominated for Best Picture. This and Avatar: The Way of Water winning VFX are the biggest early locks of the 2023 ceremony.
June 23, 2022 at 5:53 pm #1204994639with Diane finally getting her honorary Oscar, I’d reckon there’s gonna be little incentive to give her the annual pity vote
June 24, 2022 at 10:34 am #1204995255Remember its not best song, it is the song that represents it’s film the best. Has nothing to do with charts, or it being a bop, or anything. It needs to represent the movie the best among all contenders. Same with score, it has to represent the movie and accompany the movie the best. Can you imagine Jaws without its score? It literally is 2 notes over and over. But, you cannot separate the movie from that score. On my Way lyrics are mid and short, I can’t see this composition winning the award. Hold my hand is the front runner but I think it is mid. Maybe because it is not Take My Breath Away, but I don’t think its Gaga’s best and I don’t think it embodies the movie in a profound way. But, she will probably win. Right now Carolina seems to be on the map as an art piece, but Taylor’s songs for movies never go anywhere so I doubt this one will either. This one reflects the story perfectly and was very creative in the production, only using instruments made/available pre-1953. That may win artsy points with the Academy. But, right now this is going to Gaga.
