Jazmine Sullivan has this in the bag. Stand Up is not only timely for right now, it’s the end credits song and the last thing voters will hear after watching Till. Everyone in my screening stayed through the entire credits, sobbing along the way, but also feeling uplifted. Wait until the movie releases wide and more people see the film. The song is literally the perfect choice for this film. I’m very excited to hear what Rihanna has in store with BP, but right now, it’s Jasmine front and center.
Finally some common sense that isn’t based on “I hate Gaga so anyone else is better”.
I agree with this, though I do still think HMH has the edge since it’s from Top Gun and this category is sort of a “go to the default win”, but if any other song is going to be the frontrunner, it’s this one.

"Dragon Commander" (Inu-oh)
"Good Tonight" (The Bad Guys)
"Hold My Hand" (Top Gun: Maverick)
"Lucky Ducks" (The Bob's Burgers Movie)
"Naatu Naatu" (RRR: Rise, Roar, Revolt)October 24, 2022 at 9:48 pm #1205131636Recent Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile development—just one BOS submission?:
So, after putting it off for a few weeks, I finally saw Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile today.
And. I. Am. PISSED.
Mind you, the film itself is a few steps above harmless family-friendly entertainment. It’s a mostly-tight diversion, and I’m glad Javier Bardem put in the effort that he did into his supporting performance.
No, I’m pissed in light of the decision to only submit “Carried Away”, the film’s cue for the end of act 2, when all the heroes are at their lowest low.
“Take a Look at Us Now” is the film’s first song, after which it sees THREE—count them, THREE—back-to-back-back brief reprises, until one last, lengthier reprise serves as the film’s climactic song.
And of course, anyone who has come across the film’s marketing has heard snippets of the catchy “Top of the World”, which serves as a solid isolated “I want” number.
Yet despite those two worthy BOS contenders, Sony decides to submit what I’d argue is the weakest original song in the film, compounded by it being a downer song.
I may be equally pissed by RRR: Rise, Roar, Revolt only submitting “Naatu Naatu” and not “Dosti” alongside it, but at least “Naatu Naatu” is at the center of arguably the scene of the year. At least RRR could deservedly win BOS for “Naatu Naatu”, and then AMPAS can pride themselves for that choice.

In any case, 2022 now has TWO instances of a theme song important to their films getting needlessly shafted in favor of a song isolated to one scene.
This category needs to die.

Plus the song is written as a tribute to the life and legacy of Chadwick Boseman.
October 26, 2022 at 10:02 am #1205133339The way I was talking about how I wanted this for her just a WEEK ago but that I didn’t think she’d ever make a genuine try for it. 😭😭😭
I don’t see how this song doesn’t become a massive hit!
It’s her first song in SEVEN YEARS. She is SO smart omg.

Looks like Rihanna and Lady Gaga could go head-to-head in this year's best original song Oscar race. https://t.co/s5J8kx1m0G

October 26, 2022 at 12:09 pm #1205133552It is very possible that this could be one of the only categories that Wakanda Forever is win-competitive in. Unless it’s a total misfire, I would bet on this winning.

OK, but I’ve long waited for a photo of them together. Gaga’s been such a big fan of Rihanna’s, and Rihanna is, like, one of the only popstars she has followed and acknowledged over the years.
Having Gaga AND Rihanna at the Oscars would be major.
October 26, 2022 at 12:38 pm #1205133584Imagine telling someone in 2013 that Coogler’s first nom would be for writing for a MCU sequel, that also brought Rihanna out of retirement.
Academy Award nominee Tems has a nice ring to it.
