I really only buy Butler, Jackman and Fraser. I hope the last two spots remain unsure until nominations morning so we can get a Penelope Cruz/Judi Dench level of surprise.

I just love movies. And awards.

If Bardo is the Academy-friendly best picture nominee many think it might be, then Daniel Giménez Cacho might not just be a contender for a nomination but also the win. I think he’s being underestimated.

What caused the sudden surge for Bill Nighy in the odds? He was like 23rd a week ago and is now top 5.

    1. Killers of the Flower Moon & Rustin getting delayed.

    2. Sony Pictures Classics’s knack for last-minute campaigns.

    3. Lack of clarity around unseen best actor contenders. Unlike White Noise, Babylon, or Banshees of Inisherin, Living has already premiered at Sundance.

Are we underpredicting Christian Bale for Amsterdam? In such a weak field, he can have a shot

I don’t anticipate the film to be well recieved, so in my mind, not really.

However, Christian Bale in Amsterdam does feel like one of those peculiar SAG noms that we always get.

Or he may be amazing in The Pale Blue Sky

Not sure if it’ll be Bale but I’m definitely expecting one or two random noms. That 5/5 SAG-Oscar overlap last year was an outlier.

I’ve got Bale in 6th currently. I’m just waiting to see where Pitt ends up being placed. Many say he’s not lead and definitely supporting, but on here they have him placed as lead.

I also don’t feel confident about that trailer we saw for Amsterdam. I’m keeping him out of the 5 until we get reviews.

Colin Farrell – The Banshees Of Inisherin

I’m glad I picked up the odds on Farrell because the trailer is AMAZING.

Justice for Passing, Tessa Thompson & Ruth Negga.

The Power of the Dog / Jane Campion / Benedict Cumberbatch / Kristen Stewart / Kirsten Dunst / Troy Kotsur

I haven’t been on GD enough recently to know how it became conventional wisdom that Butler’s a sure thing. The reviews were not good & yes they praised Butler & sure the movie did well at the box office—but…he wasn’t that universally praised? I confess I have not seen it, but it doesn’t exactly strike me as a consistent nominee through critics awards that would let him ride it through to the precursors? A GG nod is guaranteed but… I must be missing something.

I thought similarly until I actually watched the performance and realized Elvis was the main Oscar contender on Warner Bros’ slate this year.
