Where things stand right now: Butler, Fraser, and Jackman seem like sure bets for a nomination, if not quite locks. Four and five are less certain, although if I had to guess I’d say Farrell and Nighy. If Calva is a revelation in Babylon, maybe him. (I really, really doubt Cruise gets a nomination, no matter how much people like Maverick.)

As for a win? It would be unusual for a movie released so early in the year, but I really think Butler’s in the driver’s seat, here. He received universal acclaim in a movie that grossed a great deal of money, and Elvis’ weirdness means he’ll get votes from the arthouse crowd that don’t usually like biopics. Fraser has an amazing narrative, but there are signs that A24 isn’t as confident in The Whale as we thought, and Jackman needs to absolutely knock it out of the park like Hopkins did to win for The Son.

    And he will darling.

I’m expecting Bad Education levels of greatness here, I’m hoping for it to be true.

If The Son and The Whale also flop then who on earth is even left to get nominated in this category? Daniel Craig lol?

At some point we will really have to consider Tom Cruise lol.
I do think Fraser can overcome a mixed to good reception just because of how baity he is. Jackman I’m not so sure, praying HARD for The Son to deliver.

Cruise, Song and Park are all already seen, liked and will probably be their disturbutor/studio’s #1 in this category.

SPC/A24 can still pivot to Nighy and Mescal if Son & Whale do flop.

And I still think we are sleeping on Jeremy Pope (can he please get added to prediction center?)

I don’t care if all the other contenders drop out,

I refuse to put Tom Cruise in my Best Actor lineup.
