Cruise biggest challenge is to get nommed. If he ends up getting nommed (And TGM gets a best picture nom too) he will be a threat for the win. There is no clear frontrunner on this category yet (Butler is very good but not undeniable) and if Will Smith could win for his “King Richard” performance, Cruise can win for his TGM performance too.

Will Smith literally was in a baity biopic while Cruise is playing his nth action role. Cruise isn’t winning and isn’t even a threat for a nomination.

A Globe nom and possibly landing on BAFTA longlist feels like the ceiling for Cruise as of right now. The Actor field is weak this year, but they still have options to fill before going to Cruise.

Do you honestly see Cruise winning the BAFTA? He needs that in order to take the Oscar. He’s not even getting nominated there let’s be serious.

Cruise is a threat for a nom, w the field weak and open compared to recent years, he could easily sneak in especially if Maverick overperforms and slots itself in BP; just b/c he’s not playing a “bait biopic role” doesn’t mean s*

These Cruise predictions are starting to sound like Christian Bale in Ford v. Ferrari predictions lmao.

This is completely irrelevant but I’ll always think that the weirdest fact about Christian Bale is that Gloria Steinem was his stepmother.

Exactly and the acting branch opt’d for more critically acclaimed performances like Cannes Best Actor winner Antonio Banderas and veteran Jonathan Prycr. Cruise can get in at GG and SAG and face the same date as Bale.

I’d rather Cruise not get nommed at all for that “zoom in at my dimples” performance, so it pushes him to recalibrate and start working with PTA again.

With 91 on Metacritic after 13 reviews so far, Paul Mescal is rising

HAHA. What a joke it would be for Cruise to get nominated.

Hugh Jackman will get in. The audience will like The Son more than critics and it will probably have decent box office numbers. I think the recent Marvel related news will give it a boost. The category is not that deep anyway.

Fraser, Farrell, Butler and Jackman seem like a solid 4. Calva could get in, but newcomers don’t really happen. Bill Nighy as a Willem Dafoe/Javier Bardem/Antonio Banderas type of pick could happen.

I don’t see Tom Cruise getting nominated, it’s not that type of performance, but he’s on the mix for sure. Paul Mescal, Jeremy Pope and Kelvin Harrison Jr are all pipe dreams unfortunately, unless the GG gives visibility to one of them.

I haven’t seen the movie, but I wonder if Ricardo Darin wouldn’t stand a chance if Amazon decided to push him for Argentina 1985. The movie is getting a International Feature nomination and Darin is the biggest South American actor along with Wagner Moura.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if Paul Mescal could repeat Drive My Car and sweep its way from the trifecta to a BAFTA nom, but in Best Actor. The level of passion for his performance seems pretty big. Him winning NYFF and then the other two following the way would be a interesting move.
