After watching Normal People, I concluded that Paul Mescal is really good at playing roles having gret emotional depth. This just overtakes that looks like. The trailer is wonderful. I was shocked to see my quote near the end, “The best movie of the year so far. You won’t walk away the same person“. I’m so excited for this.

Hugh Jackman will get in. The audience will like The Son more than critics and it will probably have decent box office numbers. I think the recent Marvel related news will give it a boost. The category is not that deep anyway. Fraser, Farrell, Butler and Jackman seem like a solid 4. Calva could get in, but newcomers don’t really happen. Bill Nighy as a Willem Dafoe/Javier Bardem/Antonio Banderas type of pick could happen. I don’t see Tom Cruise getting nominated, it’s not that type of performance, but he’s on the mix for sure. Paul Mescal, Jeremy Pope and Kelvin Harrison Jr are all pipe dreams unfortunately, unless the GG gives visibility to one of them. I haven’t seen the movie, but I wonder if Ricardo Darin wouldn’t stand a chance if Amazon decided to push him for Argentina 1985. The movie is getting a International Feature nomination and Darin is the biggest South American actor along with Wagner Moura.

    Man, Darin is so overdue.

he is way ahead of Moura.

p.s. Take a picture of this rare event of a Brazilian saying that an Argentinian is better.

I hope so, is a controversial character, i hope this doesn’t hurt his chances, this reminds me to Bruno Gantz in the Downfall, he had the best performance that year but he didn’t win because he was playing Hitler.

His nomination could be a “welcome to the club” type moment & just be that.

One of my friends made an interesting point to me and it got me thinking. If one of the leads of ‘Bros’ were to win at the GG Awrds, does that make them a contender for the oscar nomination? Or is that the win within itself? Curious to see how that pans out
