Brendan Fraser will face the same fate as Mickey Rourke e Michael Keaton.
So get a comeback nomination that in retrospect everyone will think he should’ve won for?

September 25, 2022 at 10:08 am #1205097736The way I look at it, there are 7 really strong contenders and no front runner. Let me explain *These are in no particular order:
1)AB: A star is born. Perfect performance for the right year.
2)SK-H: Everything I said for Butler and will add overlooked for Parasite.
3)CF: Overdue for a nom and gave what might be his best performance yet apparantly.
4)BF: Comeback of the decade. That is all.
5)HJ: The hunt for Oscar maybe over this year based on the reviews.
6)Obligatory mention of Adam Driver who is going to be Dicaprio-ed until his eventual win.
7)BN: Overlooked forfar too long and a fav amongst his peers.September 25, 2022 at 1:35 pm #1205097946vinny:
I think that Hugh Jackman is out. Those reviews ain´t gonna let him ride in with the big boys. It is a difference between being well like and well respected. Jackman is well liked
Colin Farrell, Brendan Fraser, Austin Butler are the frontrunners. I agree with that.
Christian Bale may be the late contender with The Pale Blue Eye or Amsterdam. Song Kang-ho is wishful thinking and I am all in for that. Bill Nighy is the veteran British actor riding the respect and BAFTA waveFrom the outside we have Jeremy Pope in The Inspection, Tom Cruise, Daniel Craig and Timothée Chalamet

The reason I’m having trouble totally discounting Jackman still getting a nomination is that while reviews for The Son were poor, there was a definite consensus that it is a showcase for Jackman and that he’s excellent in it. Because he is liked, and because this year’s crop is pretty thin, I think he could still wind up getting in.
I think it depends on reactions when The Son opens. If audiences are as passionately angry at the film as they were at Telluride then yeah he’s probably safe to write off.

I made the mistake of underestimating Jackman for Les Miserables. Not happening again. Until I see some really terrible reviews, he is still a contender. I would not be banking on Chalamet this go around btw. That movie seems super divisive.

I think Farrell is the favorite to win BAFTA. He could sweep the televised awards if Banshees becomes a top 5 contender and that’s looking very likely

I think he or Gleeson is winning.
September 25, 2022 at 9:08 pm #1205098224Austin Butler is the new-kid. I’m not even sure he’ll be nominated.
Brendan Fraser will have loads of public support, but I doubt the industry will want to annoint him when the much more commercially reliable Colin Farrell is right there
- He already won Venice over Brendan Fraser
- He has the more prolific career
- He’s being campaigned by Searchlight, not A24
- He’s in an almost guaranteed Best Picture nominee
- He’s the frontrunner for a second Comedy Globe
- He could easily win SAG and BAFTA
Comedic performances rarely win Lead Oscars, but don’t be surprised if Colin Farrell starts sweeping

Manifesting hard right now. VOLPI CUP winner Colin will win the Oscars.
Please! These gays, they're trying to murder me!
September 25, 2022 at 10:51 pm #1205098261Oscar winner Colin Farrell would truly be the single best possible outcome of this whole awards season. His route is definitely through BAFTA.
