It would have been stupid for Apple to save Emancipation for next year. It’s like ripping off a band-aid, either you deal with it now or a year from now. They already won Best Picture last year. No matter what, them winning this year was unlikely. And since their biggest movie (Killers of the Flower Moon) was delayed, that means this year was really going to be a wash anyway.

Plus, waiting to deal with the Will Smith controversy next year would only potentially hurt the prospects of their other movies. They might as well just drop this movie now, get it over with, and hope by next year nobody is mad at them anymore, so they can vie for Best Picture again lol.

Well, no matter how bad Will Smith’s next movie if it flops he will always blame it on the Oscar slap.

That slap was embarrassing when it happened and when we had to discuss it. Now… It is just pathetic.

We’ll see how “cancelled” Smith actually is but given that he is back in conversation only nine months after the incident, it is clear he’ll be fine.

As for this race, I am still inclined to believe that Farrell is winning. Best Actor is probably the best place to award Banshees. IDK why but Fraser does look like Stewart. I know all of us at Best Actress thread are tired of this comparison but he fits perfectly, far better than any of the Best Actress nominees.

I am not sure whether Bill Nighy may surprise. His movie is too small for that. And after Malek, Austin Butler is more than possible.

I believe will should of waited to release emancipation next year but maybe this will boost his morale for upcoming work.

About austin – i believe the passion for him is growing. And now I believe the globe is between him, tom cruise and farrell

Butler and Farrell are in different categories at the Globes.
    It’s Butler vs Fraser there.

Colin Farrell has been consistent for 20 years and is having the best year of his career.

His main competition is an industry new kid and a comeback narrative.

He could end up running away with this.

I don’t dare to hope yet, but he would be the best choice. And no one can say that he doesn’t deserve to have an Oscar to his name.

    For Your Consideration:
The Banshees of Inisherin in ALL categories, including:
    - Best Picture
    - Best Director
    - Best Actor (Colin Farrell)
    - Best Supporting Actor (Brendan Gleeson)
    - Best Supporting Actor (Barry Keoghan)
    - Best Supporting Actress (Kerry Condon)
    - Best Supporting Actress (Sheila Flitton)
    - Best Original Screenplay
