Imagine coming on here to praise a performance then every one jump on you just cuz they hate Butler.

Leaving goldderby for my mental health. Can’t even post something without getting ridiculed or someone jumping on your throat for no reason. Gotten too catty and weird. There’s a real person behind an account y’all. Not just a “bot”.

I wanted Butler to win, but his stans are making me re think that lol

Second most annoying after the EEAAO stans. If he wins the Globe it’s going to be hell here.

Butler isn’t my absolute favorite in this category, but there’s a strong case to be made for him; certainly more than Rami Malek had. It’s important to remember that Elvis has been so thoroughly mythologized and impersonated and parodied that it sometimes seems like he exists more as an icon than a person who actually lived. Butler did more than an Elvis impression – he acted through it, and reminded audiences of why people went so crazy for him all those years ago.

In unrelated news, Jackman is now campaigning for Nighy – guessing that’s that for The Son.

I’m predicting till the end Fraser to win, but can see Colin winning if Banshees is a big hit at the Oscars. Butler isn’t happening, no matter what his stans say. It’s a 2 horse race.

Butler will win sadly, we have seen this before with Redmayne and Malek

Bohemion was pretty much a huge film, Elvis is crowd pleaser but Rhaphsody was at another level. Redmayne was the best that year. Butler is not. Also, Fraser and Collin really are the best performances this year. Fraser to me is pretty much going to win, with again Colin being a spoiler if Banshees is just too popular at the Oscar’s.

Redmayne and Malek also benefited from being much more active campaigners than their biggest competition those years. That doesn’t seem to be the case this year as Fraser and Farrell are both out there doing the work.

With that said, all this talk from the last few weeks about industry screenings going CRAZY for Elvis has me as close as I’ve ever been to believing Butler could really pull it off.

Old people are going to swoon for Bill Nighy. I wonder if he can make a splash into this 3 of Butler, Farrell, and Fraser

Nighy could easily be in third place after nominations are announced

Living has a better shot at a Best Picture nomination than The Whale

Never underestimate SPC when they’ve got geriatric holiday bait.

My current predictions as of December 6th:

    Austin Butler, Elvis
    Diego Calva, Babylon
Colin Farrell, The Banshees of Inisherin
    Brendan Fraser, The Whale
    Bill Nighy, Living

I am still hoping the academy comes to its senses and nominates Brendan Gleeson the lead actor category.

I am just not sold on Hugh Jackman yet; that’s one where I need to see the movie in its entirety before I can figure his potential nomination out. Paul Mescal might be in the little movie that could….

    Me too.

I wish GoldDerby would make an exception and keep Gleeson as an option in both categories for those of us who want to go NGNG on that.
