Man I’m gonna be so bummed if Butler wins and he probs will. Like he’s pretty good in it but it’s just a shame that there are two original performances in Farrell and Fraser which will probs be overlooked. The Academy just loves a nice showy biopic performance to award. Like cmon man for once and show some love to the original performances.
They did it recently with Sir Anthony

Yeah, it’s probably too much to ask of The Academy.
The only times a biopic performance didn’t win over the last 20 years:
– Gary Oldman as Herman Mankiewicz (Lost to Hopkins in The Father)
– Jonathan Pryce as Pope Francis (Lost to Phoenix in Joker)
– Andrew Garfield as Desmond Doss (Lost to Affleck in Manchester bts)
– Brad Pitt as Billy Beane (Lost to Dujardin in The Artist)
– Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela (Lost to Bridges in Crazy Heart)Like it or not, Austin Butler is probably winning this unless it becomes obvious during the precursors that he isn’t. The biopic bias is too strong.

December 7, 2022 at 3:15 am #1205181380I wanted Butler to win, but his stans are making me re think that lol
I’m always surprised this headache-inducing mess of a movie has so many fans.
December 7, 2022 at 3:20 am #1205181388If Brendan doesn’t win he sill have a hopefully flashy performance in Flower Moon and Brothers.

His movie is very easy to see. I remember several Oscar voters thought Uncut Gems “was too Depressing”. His new Netflix movie is basically “NBA Rocky” and Oscar voters love that type of movie
December 7, 2022 at 7:58 am #1205181500Adam Sandler could be the 3th, 4th or 5th. Netflix is campaigning very hard for him and his movie is very easy to see. His movie is basically “NBA Rocky”. LeBron James is campaigning for Adam Sandler too
Adam Sandler could be even 2nd. I known for a fact Netflix began the campaign for Adam way before the rest of Hollywood. Every Oscar voter has their copy of Hustle in their houses
December 7, 2022 at 8:16 am #1205181508Cruise is getting in before Sandler. everyone and the babyboomer folks have seen Maverick unlike Hustlers
December 7, 2022 at 9:05 am #1205181568Had so much fun moderating the post-film Q&A of ‘Babylon’ at the legendary Castro Theatre in San Francisco, talking with Diego Calva about the audacious epic and his star-making performance in it. The crowd went wild for it and gave him a standing ovation. #BabylonMovie pic.twitter.com/jljZV8TwjT

December 7, 2022 at 10:05 am #1205181661I’m starting to get a little feeling that Tom Hanks might slip in for “A Man Called Otto”. I’ve had several friends attend industry screenings for it this week and they all really enjoyed it and especially Tom’s performance. Maybe he is the sleeper nom?
And some other quick thoughts
~ Tom Cruise CAN get in. Will he? I dunno, but don’t doubt it.
~ Adam Sandler is NOT getting in. Come on.
~ Diego Calva is NOT getting in. “Babylon” is a mess and he is fine in it, but he is far outshown by Pitt, Maguire and Robbie (who shouldn’t get in either btw)Current thinking (which constantly changes lately aside from the top three, lol)
1. Farrell
2. Fraser
3. Butler
4. Nighy
5. Hanks
