Banshees got 3 Supporting Actors in all catch genre categories and 8 nominations, first movie since 2003.
So are you telling me that… because it went comedy is a consolation prize? The movie IS a comedy lol.FYC:

December 12, 2022 at 10:20 am #1205191005That best actor in a Comedy or Musical line-up is PERFECTION.
And thank God no Tom Cruise in Drama. I was SCARED.
December 12, 2022 at 10:34 am #1205191057About Cruise, i don’t think he’s really affected by this, i was predicting him but fully expecting him to get the boot since his whole drama about giving back the globes and so on.
SAG will define his chances for me.FYC:

December 12, 2022 at 10:41 am #1205191084So happy for Jeremy Pope. I wish they had nominated Union along with him in SA, but wasn’t expecting The Inspection to be recognized at all, so what a pleasant surprise.

Agreed, his chances are going to live and die by SAG. I think the important thing is that Maverick didn’t take any hits here. It still got into the Film lineup.

I think this Globes nom at least keeps Pope’s chances alive for BAFTA jury (a la Ali for Swan Song last year). Getting in over Mescal was pretty surprising.
December 12, 2022 at 11:00 am #1205191165Oh and I’m very happy that Hugh got a mention, i know the movie is panned but he still got good notices for it. Very happy.

I don’t have a clue, i feel like we have a solid 4 in Austin, Bill, Brendan and Colin, but that 5th slot is up for grabs.

I have Farrell, Fraser, Butler as locks. Nighy seems to be building passion so I’d place him 4th. Mescal or Jackman for 5th. Pope looks like a GG thing that doesn’t go anywhere.
"EGOT" and "Triple Crown of Acting" winner: VIOLA DAVIS!!!!
December 12, 2022 at 11:56 am #1205191322A GG+ BAFTA combo is stronger than GG+ SAG so going with whoever takes BAFTA.
Ehh. I think GG+SAG would be stronger this year seeing that SAG is the last precursor and it’s a few days before final voting. Whoever gets that televised win at SAG, wins the Oscar
December 12, 2022 at 12:36 pm #1205191432SAG is fine with nominating genre performances. Critics Choice needs to fill those extra slots somehow.
What if Ralph Fiennes starts picking up traction for The Menu? He’s legitimately great in the movie and people are actually watching it.
December 12, 2022 at 12:57 pm #1205191492They wouldn’t snub Brendan Fraser because of the HFPA controversy which would have been revived if his name had been absent. However, they have no problem snubbing Tom Cruise because he returned his 3 GG statuettes and there’s no HFPA related controversy with him. Also, there’s speculation about JLC publicly standing by the HFPA, and that’s why she got the nomination in Supporting Actress. Shady organization.

Critics darling and i hope industry darling as well, he deserves to go all the way.
