I think Banshees will surprise in Supporting Actor and Best Picture but lose Best Actor. The Oscars are affraid to reward young actors for some reason, so that makes me doubt Butler.

    Fraser has it.

You guys think there is a chance Academy will prefer to give it to Fraser or Colin after making it win in 3/4 categories? Elvis is a frontrunner in costume and makeup and it can easily take production, sound, and editing. In that case, will they decide to spread love and give Banshees something? I can see them making Colin the only Banshees win

I don’t think they really think that way. Maybe in the ATL categories they might be more conscious of wanting to give a bunch of movies a chance to shine (i.e. voters might love Yeoh, Quan, and Hsu/Curtis but ask themselves if EEAAO is good enough to be one of the rare movies to win 3 acting oscars), but I don’t really see any voter thinking “well I voted for Elvis in production design and sound, so I can’t ALSO give it Actor”. If anything I think Elvis sweeping the early awards will be a canary in the coalmine that Butler’s taking it.

Banshees will surprise in Supporting Actor

Not when there is clearly going to be a vote split between Brendon and Barry

I’m predicting Fraser will get SAG and Farrell gets BAFTA. If that were to happen, would Butler still have a decent chance at the Oscar or not?

Idk…Farrell winning BAFTA could give him the edge at SAG too. Many are voting in the last week so it’s gonna be close.

Farrell has had an incredible year, with stellar perfs in multiple movies.
I don’t know if this matters in the end, but I dont see how it hurts.

Butler will win, because he plays Elvis. And gay dudes think he’s cute, and older women want to sit on his face and wanted to sit on Elvis’s face. It’s really that simple reading the various film forums. I don’t care if I get banned lol

That’s why Jarmusch played with Butler’s stock image, of the effortless California hipster in contrast to the “authenticity” of oddball weirdos in Driver/Sevigny/Murray, to be eaten by zombies.

It’s true though. Fraser or Farrell would be two of the more inspired wins we’ve had in a minute, only Casey Affleck, Joaquin Phoenix, and Anthony Hopkins come close. But because of the biopic and hero worship obsession with the academy, we know how this ends. Not as bad as Rami Malek but a mid win for sure. Butler is the equivalent of any filler nomination winning in academy history, and will age terribly, mark my words.
