Gonna see The Son this weekend to see if Hugh Jackman can keep the returning-nominee stat afloat.
January 19, 2023 at 12:06 pm #1205254020Funny how the new/returning nominees stat was used to argue for a Dinklage nomination last year (not shaming anyone, I used it too LOL) and now the script has completely flipped in the other direction.
FYC: Bad Sisters (Anne-Marie Duff) Cunk on Earth (Diane Morgan), Fleishman Is in Trouble (Lizzy Caplan/Claire Danes), Industry (Marisa Abela/Myha'la Herrold), Physical (Rose Byrne), Poker Face (Ellen Barkin/Joseph Gordon-Levitt/Chloë Sevigny), The White Lotus (Sabrina Impacciatore)

January 19, 2023 at 12:16 pm #1205254045Paul Mescal is the 5th slot. No doubts whatsoever.
January 19, 2023 at 2:55 pm #1205254262I’m going for Mescal for that fifth slot. I don’t believe The Son is a real movie or that it ever came out. And there’s nobody else.
January 19, 2023 at 3:48 pm #1205254324That would be amazing. Aftersun deserves SO much love and it’s being overlooked.

That we could go from a record-breaking all-returner nominee year to a record-breaking no-returner nominee year is fun. Duality! Sort of rooting for that just because if it happens maybe we can stop breaking out discussion points about those stats for a while on here.
Anyway, not feeling confident in Mescal at all. 5th spot is screaming a “what the hell” nom to me now. Jackman or Sandler. Lol.
Farrell is still winning because that is what I want!!
January 19, 2023 at 5:17 pm #1205254442My “head” say Colin.
But my “heart” is with Brendan.I almost always go with my heart.
I’m still hoping for a Fiennes nod. But the movie might be too hard for voters to “digest” (sorry). Seeing McTeer was a bonus.
A slot for Nighy. A different take from Shimura but equally poignant. There could be ten worthy nominees.
The Sunne in Splendour.
I prefer my roses whiteJanuary 19, 2023 at 5:59 pm #1205254496I believe this is a three person battle – Butler vs Farrell vs Fraser. For a while I was thinking it was Butler vs Farrell and Fraser was the spoiler but now I think it is Farrell vs Fraser with Butler as the spoiler.
Looking forward to seeing The Son this weekend. The trailer looked interesting to me.
January 19, 2023 at 6:13 pm #1205254505I so hope we get an absolutely out of nowhere nominee lol
Academy Award Winner Brendan Fraser
January 19, 2023 at 6:20 pm #1205254509Mescal gave my favourite performance in this category (that I’ve seen) this year so I’m hoping he takes that 5th spot. He has no shot to win but the nomination would be a win for him and this small film.
But Cruise could still surprise. Felix is coming really strong down the stretch but was it too late? And what happened to Pope? I don’t think Jackman is in the race.

I think if it was my personal pick, as much as I loved Mescal too, I would go for Pope. It is the more traditional Oscar-y role, and he did at least make the GG, but it seems like momentum peaked there. A shame. I hoped Ryan Murphy (ugh, ew) giving him such notice at the Globes during his honorary speech would translate to some momentum but I just don’t think it’s happening.

The movie is doing well at the box office but has a mixed reception with critics.
But who knows. He lives in you, he lives in me, he watches over everything we see.
Into the water, into the truth, in your reflection, he lives in you.Why are you reporting this post? (optional):Not now
