I agree with you on almost all counts. I do think the race is officially between Butler and Farrell, with Butler having the edge. However I wouldn’t discount Farrell. And as you said, it is a great performance. But I disagree with it being to subtle to win. Frances McDormand won with an interior performance in ” Nomadland

Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor for ”The Silence of the Lambs” and his screen time was 16 minutes. One of the 1st awards he won that season was from the National Board of Review for Best Supporting Actor.

Y’all should know by now that whoever wins BAFTA Best Actor, wins the Oscar. Literally over the last decade the BAFTA winner goes on to win the Oscar with the exception of Chiwetel (Matthew McConaughey wasn’t nominated that year because Dallas Buyers Club didn’t premiere in the UK until February 2014).

Same for Actress. There are some exceptions like Lawrence but Riva didn’t win the Globe or Chastain but she wasn’t nominated for BAFTA. Truth is these two races are probably over no matter what happens at SAG. Sometimes you don’t even need the Globe if the race is really divided and your movie is strong. See McDormand.

I was talking about the acting categories and I thought that was obvious Babylonian. The preferential ballot rewards broadly-appealing films like Parasite, CODA or EEAAO.
