I agree with you on almost all counts. I do think the race is officially between Butler and Farrell, with Butler having the edge. However I wouldn’t discount Farrell. And as you said, it is a great performance. But I disagree with it being to subtle to win. Frances McDormand won with an interior performance in ” Nomadland
the alternatives were recognizing WOC i.e. the sag winner or the globe winner, and ampas was having none of that

You totally missed the point of my comment and veered off into some lane on the lost highway. You enjoy the rest of your night.
February 20, 2023 at 8:23 pm #1205311760Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor for ”The Silence of the Lambs” and his screen time was 16 minutes. One of the 1st awards he won that season was from the National Board of Review for Best Supporting Actor.
It’s not just how much screen time you have, but what you do with it
Excellent point. I think Alan Arkin had even less screen time to build his Oscar win in “Little Miss Sunshine” upon.
February 20, 2023 at 8:49 pm #1205311789Alan Arkin won his Oscar with 14 minutes of screen time in ”Little Miss Sunshine.” … Judi Dench won her Oscar with 8 minutes of screen time in ”Shakespeare in Love.” But Beatrice Straight still holds the record, winning her Oscar for less than 6 minutes of screen time in ”Network.”
February 21, 2023 at 2:01 am #1205311893Y’all should know by now that whoever wins BAFTA Best Actor, wins the Oscar. Literally over the last decade the BAFTA winner goes on to win the Oscar with the exception of Chiwetel (Matthew McConaughey wasn’t nominated that year because Dallas Buyers Club didn’t premiere in the UK until February 2014).

Same for Actress. There are some exceptions like Lawrence but Riva didn’t win the Globe or Chastain but she wasn’t nominated for BAFTA. Truth is these two races are probably over no matter what happens at SAG. Sometimes you don’t even need the Globe if the race is really divided and your movie is strong. See McDormand.
February 21, 2023 at 5:22 am #1205311980Elvis may end up with more Oscar’s than Banshees. I don’t see how Farrell has a chance
Academy Award Winner Brendan Fraser

bafta+oscar without globe or sag in lead actress:
only frances, over billie holiday and ma rainey. hmm.
It’s almost like there’s a certain built-in privilege and advantage Frances was born with that 99% of Actress winners have had to-date…
In the 10 years before Sag awards started, only one Actress Oscar winner hadn’t won the Globe: Geraldine Page, over Whoopi Goldberg.

I reckon it’s also because the Academy respects BAFTA way more than SAG especially after their merger with the influencers, Djs and janitors.

Yet the Oscars went with the SAG ensemble winner (CODA) for Best Picture over the BAFTA’s choice (TPOTD) last year, and will probably do the same this year.

I was talking about the acting categories and I thought that was obvious Babylonian. The preferential ballot rewards broadly-appealing films like Parasite, CODA or EEAAO.

BAFTA also copy and paste the SAG winners last year 😂

BAFTA is far from perfect, they sheep often and make idiotic choices like The Whale and Being the Ricardos in Screenplay. Anyway, here’s to BAFTA happening before SAG from now on just for the chaos and for less basic choices (somewhat).

They just went with the most basic choice, Butler smh. It would be funny AF if SAG somehow rights their wrong and go with Farrell tho 😂

Like I said they do stupid shit and have their weaknesses (Luhrmann). But no way SAG is going with Farrell. Not in a million years 😭 I wish lol
