Darling, her timeless and fearless performance in Breaking The Waves should have won back in 1997. It’s one of the best acting performances ever given by an actress.
and the fact that Mcdormand won that year for Fargo when Watson literally gave a lifetime performance should have banned Ms Frances from winning again

May 5, 2022 at 10:47 pm #1204943739All four of Cate Blanchett's Best Actress Oscar nods were for performances where she played the title character (Elizabeth, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Blue Jasmine, Carol).

May 6, 2022 at 12:26 am #1204943799I sense that despite the splashy Cannes premiere for Focus Features’ Armageddon Time, it may underperform in awards season. It’s a coming-of-age film that is likely to be lost in the shadow of parent company Universal’s somewhat thematically similar The Fabelmans – and after Focus’s Belfast, voters may find it might be a bit much this season to encounter two more filmmakers’ autobiographical origin stories. In light of this, I’m sensing that Tár is likely to turn out to be Focus’s prime contender this season. Worth noting that the studio has already slotted its release date — Oct. 7, boldly facing off against MGM/UA’s Till — even before any announced plans for fest engagements (Telluride or Toronto sound likely), while Armageddon Time still awaits a date.
So, Oct. 7 – could be quite the symbolic face-off between potential Best Actress rivals Cate Blanchett and Danielle Deadwyler, while more than two months later the same week will bring another quirk-of-schedule showdown between Naomi Ackie (I Wanna Dance With Somebody) and, four days later, Margot Robbie (Babylon). In between, She Said‘s Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan open shoulder to shoulder on Nov. 18 with The Menu‘s dark-horse contender Anya Taylor-Joy, courtesy of Searchlight, which still needs to nail down the dates for a trio of its fest contenders, Saoirse Ronan‘s See How They Run, Olivia Colman‘s Empire of Light and Emma Stone‘s Poor Things. Searchlight has quite the enviable track record in Best Actress recently – won’t be betting against that house.
In addition, Netflix hasn’t yet announced a date for another potential powerhouse player it’s scheduled for 2022, Shirley (starring Regina King), but I’m thinking a Telluride/Toronto launch for that one appears likely at the moment.
