What a wonderful explanation of her process by Blanchett.
The way Blanchett so very constantly floats the idea of her thinking of retiring soon is makes me somewhat anxious as a ardent fan of her work.

It sucks, but this is Hollywood. All of them are hypocrites in the end. And shouldn’t be put on a pedestal.

I hope she doesn’t. She has to become world’s first actress to win 5+ Oscars.

Exactly, I feel like people should stop expecting so much from celebrities and realize they have faults and aren’t robots. Sometimes people forget they are blood and flesh and can be terrible too, just like everyone else 😭

October 7, 2022 at 2:22 pm #1205110758I love Blanchett and I might cheer if she wins but I want my Asian, Black ladies to finally take the crown!
She’s not happening unfortunately but definitely deserves to be in the conversation as well.

Yes, but if we are being honest, Blanchett worked with Allen in 2012/2013, and Dylan Farrow letter landed like a bomb during Oscar season in 2014. That letter changed perception on Allen drastically. Same can be said for Weinstein who suddenly wanted to attach his name to “Carol” and we even saw him next to Blanchett in 2016 award circuit. I remember Cate giving the interview she didn’t even know how he got attached to the project.
I am not the one quick to judge the actresses for working with such men. We need to understand that movie set is a workplace like any other. And we all work with people of questionable morality. I have no idea whether any of my own colleagues is an abuser etc. I understand it is incomparable due to the money and power, but we need to stop behaving like any of these women were accomplices to what these awful men did. Blaming Blanchett or Johansson or Stone for working with Allen, or IDK Streep or Lawrence for working with Weinstein is IMO, wrong. But that is also a part of a bigger conversation how we are quick to judge women for what we know is not their blame. And I don’t consider that putting them on a pedestal, just understanding the reality of working process.

Their blame is not what those men did, however, all of them are responsible for voluntarily deciding to work with them. And we’re not talking about actresses/actors who are barely starting, all of them were big names and were already established.
I agree that women are easily judged for it while men get a free pass, but in the end, both should be call out for it.
On a personal note, I don’t care about this kind of controversies, but I don’t like when some actresses get call out and others don’t. You call all of them out or don’t.

Is this movie somewhere to watch it?
All the praise for her makes me want to.

October 7, 2022 at 5:09 pm #1205110854So, I have been reading the latest batch of reviews for Blanchett and I think people are simply starting to lack words of praise to describe her performance. I am hesitant to compare the praise, but I can’t escape the feeling that Blanchett’s reviews are in the league of their own. One should also note that the actress of Blanchett’s stature would inevitably get some praises that borderline with idolatry, which may be another reason why I am cautious and not jumping the gun. But, it seems the more I am cautious and careful given the unlikability, inaccessibility and artsy character of the movie, the more reviews I read of how electrifying this performance has been, causing whirlwind of emotions. I simply can’t wait to see it.
