Before anyone jumps to conclussions, Julianne Moore is the only Actress to win Gotham and the Oscar in the same year, McConaughey and Affleck on the Actors’ side. Winning here is not strong case for a win, most of their winners are not even nominees.
"EGOT" and "Triple Crown of Acting" winner: VIOLA DAVIS!!!!
November 28, 2022 at 7:53 pm #1205169898I don’t think Blanchett is out of it at all…. now there are going to be a slew of film critics and higher brow members of the AMPAS who are going to check out Till just to check out Deadwyler’s performance (which there wouldn’t necessarily have been before).
Exactly. I’m thrilled that Deadwyler won a deserved award. And I think it’s not unusual for critics to single out a great performance that hasn’t received as much notice as some other terrific ones, which is why it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see someone like Deadwyler or Mescal or Nighy win at one or more of the trifectas. Many critics view part of their role as exercising discretion to draw attention to worthy films and performances that otherwise might go unseen.
November 28, 2022 at 7:54 pm #1205169900imdb indicates till isn’t out in uk until january so bafta might not get around to watching it.
It has already screened multiple times at the London Film Festival in October and the big studios like MGM and Universal host screenings after screenings in Central London for its awards contending titles from around then to avoid them missing out due to their strategically planned late UK releases.
Still Alice wasn’t released until a couple of days before the BAFTA eligibility period ended in March and Julianne Moore won there a full month before the film even came out in the UK.
Solidarity with the striking writers. Pay them the wages they are owed for bringing us the content we are all on here because of!

I’ve seen TAR, Till, EEAAO and I’ll see the Fabelmans very soon. All of Cate, Danielle and Michelle Yeoh are excellent. Gotham win is good for Danielle. Doesn’t determine she wins the Oscar but it keeps momentum for her and the fact that she was against heavyweights in bigger/more talked about films and still beat them with a sample sized of industry voters says something, even if it’s little.
Till needs to be SEEN and reminded constantly of its existence. Danielle doesn’t appeal to Film Twitter since she’s unknown and she won’t get that huge hype that Cate/Yeoh already have just being who they are and the films behind them. Once Till is seen enough by the right people, then many can understand why she can be a huge threat for that Oscar win. She is the baitiest in the category by far and she’s at the centerpiece of the film UNLOADING Oscar clip (her reaction to her son’s death) after clip (her emotional wailing at the sight of his coffin) after clip (her breakdown at the sight of his body) after clip (her podium speeches) after CLIP (her courtroom scenes, my God, bait GALORE). Yes, she can absolutely take it, especially at SAG where they adore that type of performance. It’s not just baity but emotionally resounding for a viewer.
November 28, 2022 at 8:17 pm #1205169938Cate Blanchett is not going to win at Sag, it’s the most unlikely place for her to win.
Well, she’s already won three SAG awards and received 17 SAG nominations so while she might not win SAG again this year, I certainly wouldn’t rule it out. There are a number of strong contenders, but my guess is that SAG this year goes to Deadwyler, and if not her, to Yeoh.
November 28, 2022 at 8:34 pm #1205169974Michelle Yeoh didn’t win because she didn’t attend 😭 Just kidding congrats to the Gotham winners!
November 28, 2022 at 8:34 pm #1205169976Margot Robbie is being underestimated, she has a spectacular performance.
November 28, 2022 at 8:39 pm #1205169981Well you already admitted you prefer someone not white to win so that makes sense you say that. Obviously Cate can’t help she is white my dear so you just ruled her out because of her race. Hey, do you. Again..I choose merit of the performance. LOL
Rooting for people from historically (and contemporarily) marginalized communities to succeed tends to be associated and dismissed as not being grounded in merit (how do you objectively measure merit here…). I thought Cate was incredible in Tar, and so were the other women. I’m elated Deadwyler is getting visibility (though I wish she had accepted the award in person so people could see her speak!). I love that a veteran Asian woman, Yeoh, taken for granted for the past few decades is getting awards recognition at all. Haven’t seen Ackie, but noting Davis, cus she was a force in Woman King and is a woman the Academy nominated for 12 minutes of holding her own with Streep. I’ll be very happy if Cate wins, but I won’t lie, it resonates deeper if/when Deadwyler, Davis, Yeoh, break stats and snap up awards that for so many decades, eluded people from their/our communities.

November 28, 2022 at 9:38 pm #1205170026Troy Kotsur won this award when no one even thought he’s getting nominated. Don’t underestimate the Gothams.
November 28, 2022 at 9:48 pm #1205170040I know this is early days but I don’t like how quiet the EEAAO camp has been. Why isn’t Michelle out on the campaign trail yet? Why hasn’t she been seen on TV since April? What is A24 doing? So anxious ugh.
