Mia Goth was the best performance of the year

The movie itself was pretty bad, plus her performance is nothing special compared to miss Collette in Hereditary dat was snubbed too in favor of some wannabes.

Mia Goth gave a very good performance, but she’s being puffed up by insecure horror fans with a chip on their shoulder. I saw a comparison to Kathy Bates in Misery, which…come on.

People underestimate the power of a movie star.

@Mladen YES! Cate Blanchett is playing Linda Tarr playing Lydia Tár wheras Huppert would just be playing only Lydia Tár. There’s a certain pathetic and desperate energy surrounding Tar’s grooming of Olga where she’s fascinating by a stuffed animal she owns, which is just depressing that I don’t think any other actor could capture. Blanchett has this certain charisma in Tár that’s so human and natural for any person to be bewitched by her towering persona that’s really difficult to depict. Any person can be charismatic, but Blanchett’s charisma specifically feels very grounded.

Also, darling your taste in your FYC!

Thanks. I am firm believer in spreading the wealth/love during award season. Never understood people who want one movie to win it all.

As for TAR, exactly. Huppert could have played German conductor, but she would never be convincing as American playing European. Lydia’s life is performance, desperate need to conceal ugly and for her, shameful realities of life. She’s perpetuating that fantasy until everything starts crashing and burning. I simply adore how Blanchett plays this.

With respect, I think some of you are underestimating what a great actress Huppert is. I’m very confident she could successfully pull off being an American playing European, but regardless, Blanchett is just incredible as Lydia Tar.

Huppert can play anything. There’s simply no actor like her.

Huppert could’ve easily done Lydia Tár. Cmon now. She’s literally one of our finest actresses.

Btw who’s winning right now among the critics? There’s too many of them so it’s hard to follow all of their awards.

I have no doubt Huppert would have done it marvelously. My comment was not intended as claiming Huppert wouldn’t be able to pull it off. It is just that role simply worked for Blanchett on numerous levels.

Huppert can play anything. There’s simply no actor like her.

I adore her. But I don’t believe everyone can do everything. This has nothing to do with Huppert and TAR, just to be clear. More with my personal views on acting as such.

God, I feel like I have rocked the boat too hard. Yes, she is amazing and I didn’t want to say she couldn’t have done it. She would be amazing as Lydia. I was just pointing out certain thing about Lydia which most people forget. And that particular bit works better for Blanchett than it would work for Huppert.

I might have used too strong words in my post. Apologies for that.

Some actors work better for certain roles. It doesn’t mean others are not talented. But the result would probably be different from what the director is envisioning. It’s called casting ‘rolling eyes’.

Go and watch this year’s Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, then come back and say this again 💀 she wasn’t good.

I do however disagree with the ‘only Blanchett could play this role’ narrative some of the Blanchett stans have been pushing, which I think is a misunderstanding of Field’s comments on writing the role for Cate.
