I’m sorry but imagine still rooting for hamminess when we had Chastain’s hammy performance win just last season. Let us breathe for one freaking year 😭

Darling, I’ve watched The Fabelmans in an empty theatre and I hope Williams and her goofy wig doesn’t win that golden trash for this annoying ass performance.

I love Williams, but all she did in this movie was whining and being horrible to her husband, while drunkenly dancing in a slutty manner and makes her kids and husband suffers from her shenanigans.

The writing (the usual eye-rolling sentimental style from Spielberg) makes this character and her acting decisions even worse.

Sounds like Jessica Lange’s Oscar-winning performance in Blue Sky!

I thought Blanchett was taking this with ease, but not so much after seeing TAR. If The Fabelmans is going big I don’t see what could stop Williams from winning.

Agree!! TAR was “cold” with empty soul , couldn’t stand to watch it

    It’s so boring and dreadful.

I had high expectations for Blanchett in Tar since everyone has been saying it’s the greatest performance of all time only to be met with Blanchett in Blue Jasmine, but with classical music.

    I saw Fablemans.
If anyone thinks Michelle Williams performance is hammy
You really don’t know great acting. It is the performance of her career, brilliant, emotional, forceful and always nuanced. I actually think Spielberg would be thrilled if his mothers character becomes an Oscar winning role..
At this point, I’ve seen all the contenders except Robbie and Colman. I don’t think either of them is in contention. Babylon seems like a mess and Robbie’s frantic scenes in the trailer turn me off. Blanchett is not getting a 3rd Oscar at such a young age. The Oscar is between Deadwyler and Williams. Sadly, as great as Deadwyler is, it’s yet another black history lesson, and I don’t think the academy will give it to her. So, Michelle Williams, get ready to win!

The same “Huppert argument” that can be said for Blanchett, can be equally used for Yeoh, Deadwyler, Davis, Robbie, Williams. Actually, anyone…

But, what I truly hate about those arguments is how they ignore unique styles of acting. This is not about Cate or Michelle or Danielle etc. This is about every actress bringing something to the creative table that is a movie. Would TAR be better with Huppert, or EEAAO with some other actress – it is pointless. It is all about being different, doing it differently, not better or worse. Especially when we have ladies this good.

    I don’t know

I just don’t feel Michelle Williams has this in the bag.

She has the Oscar bait performance but this is not Chastain, a year against contenders who were previous winners and with very weak narratives. She has significant hurdles.

I will put her at the front, just in case, somehow, both EEAAO and Tar get snubbed in Best Picture

    1. Cate Blanchett
    2. Michelle Yeoh
    3. Danielle Deadwyler
    4. Michelle Williams
    5. Viola Davis

The current “fight” is for the 5th place between Davis, Robbie and Colman. I would be really surprised to see any of the top 4 missing.

Given the current reception of Blanchett and her movie, given the fact that we still haven’t figured out who her main competitor in this race is and given the already won prestigious awards, I do believe she is still a frontrunner and most likely Oscar winner.

As for Williams, boy, do those clips and scenes look hammy. I’ll be watching “The Fabelmans” next week, but I am not a fan of what I have already seen. I can see her winning, yes. But it would be such an uninspiring choice.

Fight me but I’m confident that Davis is not happening. She’s not essentially what makes The Woman King outstanding, and a kind of supporting role in a genre film doesn’t help either. I doubt that performance could get a nom even in a weak year (last year, for example.) I’m counting on Robbie, Ackie, or Colman for the fifth slot.
