I am not starting the debate with Jax and Bonehead, as I agree with both, just wanted to write about something.
IDK if I can say that “campaigning” (if that is what we currently see) can fall under “kissing ass”. I am not sure if we can say that Cate or Viola promoting their movies is just a campaign and not simply proud promotion of the work they have done. Michelle Yeoh receiving award in Toronto can be seen as “campaign”, but I was honestly glad she is receiving an award. Yes, there are levels and nuances to every case, and we see how aggressively “Babylon” will be screened. But, overall, I think that we forget how much passion and dedication went into each of these projects and that women of this category (at least some of them) didn’t have easy time getting the role, making the movie. So, having them celebrating what they have done, doing what they can to boost visibility, honestly – it is part of the job. There is nothing shameful or wrong about that.
When I see the work these women have done, I want their movies to succeed. I want them to share that spotlight among themselves as we enjoy their talent. And, yes, that includes Deadwyler too.

Get that Oscar, Dr. Yeoh!
December 6, 2022 at 7:08 am #1205179896There’s nothing wrong with campaigning. To each their own. Play The Game.
However, some actors don’t have the type of money Cate Blanchett, Margot Robbie, Michelle Williams, Jennifer Lawrence all have in their bank accounts. They simply can’t afford to just sit around talking about their movie for several weeks not getting paid.As someone mentioned, Danielle is booked and busy. That’s amazing for her. She’s not sitting idle, she’s out there getting the bags and setting up project after project.
I like how all the actresses you mentioned, purely coincidental are all white. Let’s not make it about race because it simply isn’t. Viola is campaigning, Cate is campaigning, both Michelle(s) are campaigning etc. This is not about them having nothing to do, or having free time to promote a movie.
Danielle is shooting, but it is not like her movie is not being screened. Didn’t we have Cher screened “Till” few nights ago? So, the game is being played, to use your own words.

Mother has been mothering so hard. I am incredibly happy she is getting all the deserved laurels.
December 6, 2022 at 7:48 am #1205179944‘and in this way Michelle Yeoh can still win the Oscar for Best Actress’
December 6, 2022 at 7:52 am #1205179958Asian actors have long been given stereotypical…roles, and rarely top billing. “It shouldn’t be about my race, but it has been a battle,” Michelle Yeoh says, golden baubles on her jacket clanging as she mimics elbowing her way through a crowd. “At least let me try.”
December 6, 2022 at 8:07 am #1205179983Why is Michelle Yeoh making it about race? Not everything is about race! I’m tired of this.
(This is sarcasm for those too slow to realise)
